Our Park and Rec borrowed me 11 of these units. However, the instruction book nor the person who bought them knows how to put in waypoints manually. π― I have tried and got one in, but can’t get it to take a second one without overriding the first one. Anybody familiar with these and can give me a stepbystep on how to enter waypoints? I have an event this Saturday for a bunch of kids and need to get these things ready to go.
09/25/2007 at 4:57 pm #1879354I helped someone once that got one of those puppies … I remember it being very “hidden away”. The unit seems to be designed under the assumpton that NORMALLY you’d care about only 2 waypoints! … your HOME waypoint and a MAN OVER BOARD waypoint … anything beyound that becomes a bit less user friendly.
I’m going to look through an online manual now, to see if I can find/remember the steps to take to add more.
09/25/2007 at 4:59 pm #1879355Here’s a link to the online manual … so far I see it cautioning that if you set a new Home Waypoint, you erase the prior one. I’m starting to wonder if that’s how the person I helped a couple years ago used the unit then, just one waypoint (cache) at a time?

First off you need to make sure your in advanced mode. Being in basic mode only allows for two waypoints; home and man overboard.
I found no way just to enter one waypoint after another in the manual but there is still a way.
That user guide for advanced is at this link
http://www.lowrance.com/Manuals/Files/iFINDERGoAdvanced_0148-731_Rev2_050305.pdfIn short this is how

Do this 1st
Create Waypoint at Current Position (pg 53)
1. While you are traveling, press ENT|ENT. The waypoint is saved and
automatically given a name with a sequential number, such as “waypoint
002.” The waypoint symbol and number appear on the map. Then

09/25/2007 at 5:11 pm #1879357WOW – I have 11 of them to do with 14 waypoints π I will try that, but does it sound to you like you can have 14 in there or only one? These are people who have never used a GPS so they would not understand how to put in new coords over the old one I don’t think…
09/25/2007 at 5:11 pm #1879358P.S. Thanks for trying to help me and the kids on this folks! π
09/25/2007 at 9:44 pm #1879359PC Frog … that’s for filling my “memory gap” … I recall now that I stumbled on that Advance Mode for the person … 2 years time had totally wiped that out of my head.
Yes, as it would appear from looking at the steps … it is not a fun process with this unit. The guy I was helping two years ago, got the unit as a gift … I took him caching one day and he got hooked … he sold the thing at a rummage sale and bought a Garmin π

Yes, it will hold 14. The manual says the thing will hold 1,000 waypoints but putting them in would take a year.
from page 3
Position points: …………. 1,000 waypoints; 1,000 event marker icons.09/26/2007 at 1:38 pm #1879361π Thanks to everyone who helped with this. I am grinding my fingers to nubs putting in 14 waypoints on 14 GPS’s which don’t hold satellites very well… but I’m gettin’ er’ done! I just hope the goofy compasses on the things work, they don’t seem to be pointing in the right directions – at least from my home, but the location is 12 miles from my house. It would really stink if I went through all this work and then it does not work… yikes π―
09/26/2007 at 5:13 pm #1879362Remember they are learning. If something goes wrong tell them it is user error and they should try again. π
09/26/2007 at 5:21 pm #1879363Ok one more question. I tested a unit out at lunch. Seems to work ok. The compass screen on this unit has an arrow showing your point of travel and also one which points to the waypoint. If you go in the wrong direction, a black line follows you around. In other words, it tracks your every move. By the end of the day, with 14 caches to find, the screen is going to be very mucked up! I read the Lowrance book and it said to stop tracking, I should turn navigation off, but won’t that also shut off the compass part? I think the manual is very poorly written. If no one knows, I can only try it and see what happens…
09/26/2007 at 6:50 pm #1879364The trail that is being left should only be a problem if the caches/waypoints your tracking are in close proximity. If not, the trail will not be shown since it will be out of the radius of the compass.
Now after getting to a waypoint, from what I read you have to cancel the navigation then pick your next destination. (on mine i do not have to cancel just pick a new destination)
From page 29
When you reach your destination, be sure to cancel your navigation:
press MENU|βο to CANCEL NAVIGATION|ENT. iFINDER asks if you’re sure;
press βο |ENT.If the trail does get in the way you can always clear it.
From page 29/30
Press MENU|βο to CLEAR TRAIL|ENT. iFINDER asks if you’re sure; press
βο |ENT. 2. Return to the page by pressing EXIT.09/26/2007 at 6:58 pm #1879365Frog, you sure are a helpful guy, thank you so much. These folks will be out and away from me in different groups I am not sure they would understand how to delete a track π― so I am going to have to hope that your advice on the gobbdly gook disappearing will help. π These caches are all on the same property so they will be close together. I may experiment tonight and walk around in a few circles and see what happens. I should look pretty nuts – well, more than usual anyways! HA π
