OK Folks the moment we’ve been waiting for.

I’ve finally received the information we need to choose where we would like to host our Adopt A Highway segment.

Please post your suggestions of Highways or Areas you would like us to pursue. There are quite a few openings currently and I’ve also been given a list of segments that probably will be opening up (but are currently assigned).

Lets get the ball rolling so we can get our application in soon!

I’m game for something centrally located. I know there are a ton of adopted areas around Manitowoc/TR already. A central location would work well.. but anywhere would be fine.

One without too much traffic would be nice 😛 Seriously though, for NE wisconsin what is available thats central?

To my knowledge the most of the constantly active gc’rs run the valley 41 corridor and the sheboygan-GB 43 corridor.

If you make a triangle around that area new holstien, chilton, brillion, reedsville, cato, wayside, etc fall in the center.

On the flip side, getting a sign up (do they still do that?) on a more traveled route and keeping it clean would be a positive note for the sport in the area.

OK, below is the page that lists the opening in Brown County on 41 and I43. The lines marked with “X” are not yet open but probably will be yet this year.

Something to keep in mind is that much of the work (as far as what needs to happen at the location we end up choosing) is already done by the DOT. The DOT pushes safety all the way from a video we will need to watch prior to the operation to a workplan that we will need to follow. The workplan has all the information for the locations we choose and will detail everything from where we start, to where to park, to what signage and other safety issues may be present in that particular stretch of highway.

We will need to put our three top choices on the application so feel free to make several suggestions from the list posted below or suggest another area.

I think the shorter routes would be better, I’ve not attended any cito’s yet but the ones I’ve seen have only been a dozen or so people. Considering that and there would be a mix of abilities I think the shorter routes would be better.

    So my choices

    05-043-75
    05-043-77
    05-041-63
    05-041-64

    That would be…

05-043-75 : I-43 Mason St to Baird Creek Rd. Northbound
    05-043-77 : I-43 Baird Creek Rd to 54/57/University Northbound
05-041-63 : Lombardi Avenue to Mason St. Northbound
05-041-64 : Lombardi Avenue to Mason St. Southbound

    Those are great choices!

Any other thoughts on these or others to suggest?

    Also looking at short segments…

There are two very short segments available on 41 in Outagamie county…

US 41 between College and Wisconsin Ave.

We could adopt both the Northbound (listed at .55 miles) AND Southbound Lanes (listed at .36 miles). We’d get signs on both sides of the highway and kill two birds with one stone as long as we’re there.

    Thoughts?

I would have to agree with Rsplash40. They would be my first choices also. Count me in to help out.

I’d pick the outagamie ones mainly because they are closer to me. There’s also a good concentration of active cachers right there.

And with all the negative press the appleton area has received in the recent past that may be the best place to start.

Outagamie county works for me too.

Until Brown county decides not to charge to place caches they won’t receive my help. (Just have to take a stand on that one.)

I think this segment(s) would be very convenient and high profile.

Centrally located with many meeting places nearby.

This spot gets my/our vote – and our help!

I like this one. High profile and easy access.

This sounds like an excellent segment…..and not in Brown County.

I got to thinking about the physical layout of this section of Hwy 41, and I’m not sure that they would want anyone in this area cleaning it up. There are quite a few high drop offs and high congestion in the area.

What exactly would be expected of us on any section of road sponsored? Just a thought….a little on the late side, but a thought none the less. 😉
