As a part of a two-step program (12 is far too many for cheaters) to stop cheating we have decided to take our first step in admitting it…

ok, so we are cheaters…but very bad cheaters! here’s the story. We had wanted to do the Ice Age Trail Trek cache near us for quite some time, so we decided that tonight after work there would be enough daylight to complete it…here’s the fun…

Since there is a lot of hiking and this had the potential of taking many hours to complete…and we were on a mission after all…We thought we would save ourselves a bit of hiking by bringing two cars and parking one on one end near the first waypoint, and the other at the suggested coords…ahhh…aren’t we tricky…so we did…but wait until you hear how this story unfolds….

Completed the very well laid out multi…
signed the log, TNLN…but our adventure only had just begun…

you see there was a loophole in our plot to save time in our attempt to complete this cache after work before dark by driving two cars thus saving time hiking…hiked back to the car (probably not the correct way as we never make it easy on ourselves). Finally made it back to the car feeling very accomplished…Yes, we completed this one in record time and just beat dark! Woo hooo…felt great after the hike (it really is a great hike)…then one member of our team (I wont mention who HE was) said you have the keys…yes, I had the keys, but to MY vehicle…HE left HIS keys in MY car…guess where we had to hike? So in our attempt to cheat a bit (actually we thought we were being resourceful not cheating)…we ended up having to walk the entire distance and then some to get back to my vehicle to get HIS keys…there has to be a lesson in this somewhere…hehehe…

    Ahhh…I think we are recovered…

    That’s way too funny.

Could have been worse…at least you didnt lock both sets of keys in the car

Pretty funny story, Tony and Rhonda! Thanks for sharing one of life’s most embarassing moments in geocaching.

Tony of the WISearchers chimes in to defend the unnamed “HE”.

So, hypothetically, if said Fiancee has said keys to “HIS” vehicle, wouldn’t one think that they should be on “HER” keychain, not as a separate set of keys? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose? , No no, I’m (I mean HE’S”) not bitter LOL

We can relate to this story. I love hiking the IAT. It’s not uncommon for us to take our bikes to a trailhead and hike back to the car. It was in Southern Kettle Moraine where my wife and I took two cars. We dropped one off at state forest headquarters and drove north to the Waterville segment trailhead. To lighten your load before hiking, my front pockets were emptied. After hiking 15 miles and close to the HQ my wife says You have the keys for the big van? RIGHT? Oh !@#%, I took everything out of my pockets and threw it in back of the mini van. For the next half mile I was trying to figure out how we could get back to the van with hiking. Rangers are nice guys, maybe they could have a heart and help us. Hitchhiking? Calling on of the kids to come to pick us up? Then I remembered,I yelled HEY, I reached in my back pocket pulled out my wallet and unzipped the secret hiding pocket and produced two spare car keys. We were both exhausted and very very happy. This experience has made me aware to always check to have my keys.
