I just got back in town and see that Memorial Florists has replanted the park. I think it would have been fun. 😀 Too late now though. 😉

I just sent an e-mail to the reporter in this article and I hope everyone else will too. Sounds more to me like the bar patrons are having a good laugh at our expense. 👿
Miata if you are going to flower them with kindness, let me know… it will be worth a trip to Appleton to bring ’em a few flats. 😆
07/23/2006 at 9:57 pm #1763687Good Afternoon:
I know what you mean about keeping it clean. I have to say that I would tend to think that there are some people watching and writing, that have much stronger opinions. I am trying to keep everything clean and no accusatory, and also going to try to keep the Meet and Greet Clean, and professional.
I also want to pubicly thank the following people who have helped, or given great inspiration.
In no particular order. User names only.

Buy-The-TieI know there are more, but I my mind is swirling right now, so if I missed you I am sorry, and please know that the help is not forgotten.

07/24/2006 at 12:28 am #1763688I just got back from vacation and have been trying to get up to date with this topic.
I have to agree that it seems unlikely that a geocacher would cause the damage. I was suprised to see a picture of how small this park actually is. I was expecting to see a big floral garden.
I can see why the alderman would be upset if someone ruined “his” garden. Maybe he feels some ownership to this land since he’s worked at making it look nice. Along that same line, maybe he doesnt want this game played in “his” park.
It seems like the problem was blown a little out of proportion by the alderman. It doesnt seem right to accuse geocachers without any evidence. It might be one thing to suspect geocachers are involved, but to accuse someone in the media should require some proof.
I wish I could be there for the meeting, however, I have a DNR class that day.
How about planning a community service project for the area? Maybe you can come up with a project for an area park that would bennefit the community, and show good will from OUR community.
07/24/2006 at 2:40 am #1763689I just came from there. It was after 9 PM so I couldn’t see very well, but the flower area is well away from where I found the cache last year. Memorial Florists fixed up 2 small flower beds in the front of the “park” from what I could tell. A very nice gesture indeed! 😀
My Mom & Dad couldn’t find the park even after living in Appleton for 60+ years, so I showed her where it was tonight. It is a cute little gem of a park. I remember the old Lutz Ice Company building well and have knew of the park since it’s humble beginings. 😯
I’m sure this will turn into something positive and also commend all who have helped turn the tide on this thing.

“You guys are awesome! There’s no other way to say it. I just saw that several Wisconsin geocachers set the record straight. And such a great approach too! Good luck with the meet and greet on July 30. Let me know if you need any support from Groundspeak HQ.”07/27/2006 at 3:35 pm #1763691Ahhh yes, now I remember why I stopped reading GC.com forums… 😉
I think everyone is appreciating everything those cachers in the area are doing to make amends and educate the locals.
07/27/2006 at 4:40 pm #1763692Unreal! And I thought some of our discussions went sour! 🙄
I think the gathering on Sunday will have a good outcome. Too bad that I can’t make it.

07/27/2006 at 11:46 pm #1763693I just went and read the entire thread. Who is this wadcutter? What a Piece of work. I am now very glad, the only forums I read are on the WGA Site.

Well Said Beast!!
I had changed plans for the weekend just to make sure that I could be here for this event. As this gathering was happening I felt as though we were not all that important to them to even show up. I guess we will see how important it is come Election time. I might move to Kalatas district just to vote.

I couldn’t have said it any bettery myself. Hope you had a very safe trip home, and you don’t feel that it was a waste, what with the alderman and park director not showing up. I feel we did alot of good in the community, as it looks like we have at leaast four people new to geocaching.
Thanks to all that attended. It was great meeting more fellow wga members and Wisconsin Geocachers.

Heck, I’m considering moving to his district to run against him. Only thing is, I wonder if I’d have to live above the bar. Too much temptation? 😉
It was very disappointing that not one alderman showed up. Not one. It was also extremely disappointing that the P-C didn’t bother to even send anyone for 5 minutes to even take a quick quote for a story on page 5 of the local section.
That being said, it was very nice to meet other cachers and put names and faces to the team names. The Beast and Marc gave me computer mapping help that I am very grateful for. So although it was a total loss as far as defending ourselves and actually “setting the story straight” with local government and the media, on a personal note it was a nice experience. Definitely not what we all went there to accomplish, but still a nicer morning than watching the rain.
08/07/2006 at 1:16 am #1763698I just walked through this park tonight. There was a bike locked up to the park bench. I would guess in this town that would make front page. I’ll be waiting for the paper tomorrow.
12/15/2007 at 4:25 am #1763699Walter passed away this week. May he rest in peace.
12/15/2007 at 4:33 am #1763700I heard this on the radio this morning. Not exactly the way I wanted him out of our local politics.
