I’m done playing games. Few take my vision of the sport as seriously as I do and I’m tired of the uphill battle.

But rather than archive them all, I’m putting them up for adoption since a lot of my life over the past 4 years has gone into the irretrievable vortex of geocaching.

Please PM me with your requests and be patient, this is going to take some time. I’d like to keep the series intact, to be prepared to adopt a series if you are interested.

It was fun while it lasted….

This is a sad day for the kingdom. I have sent a PM regarding caches, but wanted to publicly state that I’m a huge fan.

It was the Laughing Water series in Menasha that were on the LCG when I first started caching that got me interested in puzzles. These were great caches and so have the rest of your caches that I’ve done. I’ve been frustrated at times, but never disappointed in the learning opportunities, the help you’ve provided (even after multiple emails), etc. You’re a great asset to the land of Selzzup and I’d hate to see you leave.

I was looking over your caches and I can hardly believe how many of your hides I did manage to find.

I had some really good memories of some of those hides…like the one I had literally in my hands…then placed it back log unsigned and promptly fell 15 feet to the ground….I have yet to log that one. I was hoping to some day get back to it. I wish I could post the pic of me at GZ but alas it is a huge spoiler…butt (yes the two T Butt) it was a great pic.

…and yes there are those other puzzles I felt smug about solving only to fail in the finding part. One thing that can be said is that you left a cacher with something original…..perhaps too much of a good thing is no longer good?

In any case thanks…and I hope to see you reenter after some deserved time off.

Drag your wagon and your plow
Over the bones of the dead
Out among the roses and the weeds
    You can never go back
    And the answer is no
    And wishing for it only
    Makes it bleed

    The sirens are snaking their
    Way up the hill
    It’s last call somewhere in
    The world
The reptiles blend in with the
    Color of the street
Life is sweet at the edge
    Of a razor
And down in the front row of
    An old picture show
    The old man is asleep
As the credits start to roll

    And I want to know
    The same thing
    Everyone wants to know
    How it going to end?

For new adoptees, please include an address in your adoption requests so I can send you hard copy of these puzzles. Nothing worse than knowing the solve, but not how to get it.

As someone who has only started to dip his toes into the waters of Selzzup I’m saddened by this news, but happy to hear there are arrangements to maintain.

So sorry to see this post. I did put in my request for the Flags of our Fathers series and War & Peace. Its really to bad that some games that people play have to come to this.

This is not what I wanted to see.

Sure we’ve had our differences, but I’ve always appreciated the time, effort and beauty you put into your caches. Thanks for those memories.

I’m sure you’ve given it a lot of thought, but I’d like to see you reconsider. If time away is what you need, then so be it. But like Lostby7 said, I hope to see you reenter.

I ask one thing of those putting in their requests.

Please only adopt caches that you can feasibly keep maintained. If they are not within a normal travel pattern or near your home, please allow someone who can keep them maintained adopt them or if you feel attached somehow and want to own them, make sure you find a “trail boss” who can do maintenance for you.

I will save any other comments about this for later.

Just want to share with those who care about these things the straw that broke my back.

About the only thing that gave me real satisfaction in this game anymore was creating caches with a purpose beyond finding a stupid container in the woods. Since a recent slew of cache find logs on caches I helped create underscored this premise for some that finding the final is the only purpose behind the sport and the puzzle aspect is something they can take or leave, I decided to call it quits.

This was evidenced by the recent run on the Naturalist series which 14 area cachers helped craft and place in the Purdy preserve. Not a single person in that tour group had the decency or respect to mention the naturalist, the purpose of the series, or even the preserve itself, but instead opted for ALL copy/paste logs – this after the many contentious threads and posts during the past couple months about respecting owner wishes.

Permission was only granted to place the Zeroes to Heroes BECAUSE of its educational content. I would NOT have been given permission to place traditional caches there and that’s why there weren’t any there to begin with. I, and the co-owner of the final, worked long and hard to make the series a reality. To have 4 cachers go through the entire series and not add even a single word outside of their copy/paste logs was a personal insult to me and just underscored the fact that no matter how hard I and others try to get our point across about establishing a baseline for caching ethics, some will never get it. Yes, some things in this sport ARE more important than a smiley.

I have received some pleas to reconsider and may walk back from the precipice, but I have to give it some time. Just looking at all the caches I have and what went into them is making me feel really down about adopting them or archiving them, although the process has already begun.

I’m not going to try to walk you back from the precipice, but I will say that it just won’t seem right solving or hunting these caches under new ownership. Personally I’d rather see them archived than live on as scattered remnants.

You gotta do what you gotta do, my friend. I completely understand the feelings of remorse because it was pretty strong after our mass-archival a few weeks back. But that will pass and you can concern yourself with more important things.

All of us in Puzzleland are feeling the sting of dealing with these tours and our responses to it with mass archival. While my initial thought was to archive them all, it would just have resulted in a many new caches in the area that might not highlight as well as I have the many historical and culturally significant things in the valley represented by my caches.

I just witnessed many of -cheeto-‘s caches get archived as his response to these tours and know full well how much time he invested in creating that Retro Video game series.

Now, many would say we are all being way over-reactive to the way some people choose to play, but those same people have probably not spent the same amount of time researching, crafting and placing puzzles caches as those most affected by these tours. All we are asking for is a little respect for our contributions and if you don’t want to give it, then why offer any opportunities to give it in the first place.

As a fairly new geocacher, who has fallen in love with the sport. This is just so shocking… and this does suck. Selzzup will never be the same that’s for sure….
