How about “This is an optional request, and to help you comply with this request, I will be so kind as to delete your log if it does not comply, generously providing you the opportunity to relog.”
Sieg Heil Groundspeak!
On my ALRs, I always did consider it optional. preferred but optional. Most people did the ALRs, but I didnt make a big deal of contacting folks who did not. I certainly would not make a big deal about deleting someone’s log if they did not include the photo or story I requested, and in general think some of the folks that do make a big deal about there ALRs take themselves a bit too seriously. I also wonder if people being dinks about deleting logs for miniscule reasons is one of the major reasons that Groundspeak had to get rid of ALRs.

I just submitted 2 new “ALS” (Additional Logging Suggestion) caches for review. Much more fun than ALR. ALR is sooo 2008. ALS is the ALR for 2009. 🙂

No no! ALR = Additional Logging REQUEST. It’s like computers -cheeto-. We just rebrand the acronym.
I quite like ALRPPWSCASOT (Additional Logging Request, Pretty Please With Sugar, Cherries, and Sprinkles On Top!)

TFTC
on their log and deleting anything else by saying I don’t care how much fun you had, how long you searched, that you didn’t like the cache, if you left anything, took anything, whatever. (and no punctuation, emoticons, etc)
How can I word this so it doesn’t appear as an ALR? 😀
King Boreas has several ALRs where a specific log is required, including one for just TFTC. there are others such as “E.C. was here” and other arbitrary wordings of loggings.

I enjoy the additional logging req. as long as they are reasonable. However, with a cache like KB’s logging just a “TFTC,” I wouldn’t like. Most people know that unless it is a guardrail cache, I like to write about my adventures during the cache. To me that is just as much fun as finding the cache. Take GMO’s cache where a finder is “asked” to write a Haiku. I did one similar to that in Arizona or S/S “Consult the Oracle.” It makes the cache more fun and memorable. Just logging TFTC… why????
04/08/2009 at 10:17 pm #1905189I’ve already modified my one cache with an ALR. And I’m kinda glad I did…I had that delete threat on it that created some animosity. Since it was supposed to be a “fun” cache, it took away the fun for a couple of cachers. I’m not sure why I put it on there in the first place…but it’s not there now:) The last thing I want to do is create animosity in the caching community…maybe that’s why Groundspeak decided to regulate ALR’s.

😉 😉 I was just trying to make light of the whole thing….
little did I know that there were caches out there that only wanted TFTC!
I did notice that if you posted a note, You could post whatever, just couldn’t on a found it log.I too, like to tell of the adventure and I like to read about the adventures other have had on the caches. In fact, as I think most cache owners would agree, TFTC as the only thing written in the log actually make us feel as though our efforts to put the cache out in the first place could have been used somewhere else. I certainly don’t ask for a book to be written when someone finds a dead end cache but something, even spell it out “Thanks For The Cache” at least that would make it look like you put some effort in posting the log 😀

You know, I just realized that I forgot the ALR part of one of zuma’s caches last weekend. It’s such and easy one to do, too… I’ll have to go back and re-log it.

LOL….You dont “have” to. But if ya want, that is fine. Like I said, I have always considered it optional and even preferable, but not a big deal if someone forgot, or didnt understand the request. This is after all a game that is intended to be done for fun.

And here I thought this was Zuma’s job!
04/09/2009 at 2:06 pm #1905194I finally got around to reading most of the thread on this topic in the gc.com forums. Interesting content, albeit repetitive.
To me, what it boils down to is that Groundspeak threw out the baby with the bathwater with this decision. It is a shame to loose this option, as I think most people enjoyed the variety that ALRs made possible, and those who did not, always had the option to skip the ones they didnt like.
I think I will probably end up just changing mine to “Additional Logging Request” which is all it ever was anyway, since I never did see the point in log deletions in the first place. But I want to think about for a few more days, so I disabled mine until I decide the best course for my ALRs.
