    I was just curious:

Seems like I’m the only one who didn’t get a WI geocoin. Is this true? Don’t know why I didn’t buy one (and I am starting to regret it now). Maybe I was just sad that my badger submission was never seriously considered…..

Although, I am the proud owner of some limited edition WI Badger wooden nickels. (any chance I can get buy some more?)

Nope, you are not the only one; I didn’t buy one either.

No bec, you are not the only one. Nor does it make you a bad WI geocacher. I did not buy any coins either.

Did the WGA put a lot of time into creating, selling, mailing the coins? Yes

Did they turn out well? I am sure they look great! In fact I am excited to see one.

For providing Wisconsin geocachers and WGA members to have a coin of their own coin, I salute all the efforts.

but, the coin to me is just another unecessary extra and complicating thing leading to things such as paper copies of coins. Along with that I include virtual travel bugs and locationless caches allowing someone to log a find with possibly not even leaving their computer, and pocket caches at events. Why did Groundspeak get rid of virtual caches? The really didn’t fit the ideal of geoCACHING. Make enough paper copies of coins, and that idea will just lose it excitement until it is no longer around. I’m waiting for the day that I can pin a picture of a ammo can on a tree and call it a cache.

All these things become just another category on those stats pages. I rarely even look at them. We all agree this activity is whatever you personally make of it. If you make personal goals then great, they are personal and it should be enough reward that you acheived your goal. It shouldn’t be necessary for all these stats to be adding up on a stats page and having that be the reason anyone caches.

How about that good ol’ ammo can or tupperware in the woods. Isn’t that what geoCACHING is really about? Not coins, or paper coin copies, or bugs, or virtuals, or locationless caches or stats? All the back and forth just makes my head spin!

Just my opinion for sure, but paper copies of coins sounds like one of the silliest thing I have ever heard of.

I also “don’t get” picking up a TB at an event logging it, and putting it back down.

    Am I missing something?

    OUCH

I spent several days trying to draw a badger that did not look like a skunk and even stated that I had no luck on making one.

    Sorry you felt that way.

I really have enjoyed locationless caches.
Some were super educational, some were extremely challenging (I’m still looking for a suspension bridge), some made me do a ton of research to exactly know what I was hunting/looking for BUT NONE of them were found by just sitting at a computer. You need to go out and take a picture of the location/object with your GPS. I will miss them as of Jan 1st, 2006. Tami

Alas… I didn’t purchase one either. It would be neat to come across one out on the trail though…

Ruby Slipper: I’m with ya on the TB thing. I don’t get it either. However, I’ve been branded a heretic by some in these forums for my beliefs. I guess to each his/her own…

Please know that I was only joking with my comment. (I’m very rarely serious when it comes to my artwork.)

The actual WI geocoin is beautiful. I’m just feeling remorse that I didn’t buy one.

Anyone want to put a geocache in my front yard with an unactivated WI geocoin in it?

And if all of you were wondering, since you haven’t received my Christmas list yet, I do have a WI geocoin on it.

(again — take everything I say in jest. Coming off of a blue period and I tend to be extremely silly for a few days.)

Consider it done! If you’re not able to make it to our breakfast we’ll send it home w/ Jennifer.

I did not buy one either. AND, I came across a cacher (over 700) yesterday who did not even know there is a WI geo-coin!

Why werent emails sent out to us members who rarely visit here about coins being made and ordered? Are we SOL?

Emails were sent out to all the members of the WGA. The emails were sent to the email address that you gave us when you registered. If you no longer use it that could be why you did not recieve our email. There is also a good possibility that your ISP blocked our email as spam.

Rest assured, we really wanted as many people to know about the coins as possible. Considering the responce, I believe we reached the majority of the folks who wanted the coins. Unfortunately, as with all endeavours, there are sure to be some people who manage to fall through the cracks. For that, I am sorry.

I can’t promise anything, but I believe we had a few extra coins that I’m unsure what the plans were for them. Once the dust has settled from the recent shipipng they may be available. But please, don’t hold me to that, I’m only offering conjecture.
