An important thank you

This weekend we ventured out to Door County to enjoy an event as well as to help out “Dumpa” (Ray)

Now I hadn’t heard of Dumpa, let alone met him, but I read the event page and liked what I saw.

This weekend Ray planned an event in collaboration with the Whitefish Dunes State Park. He worked hard with these people to dispell negative feelings that the park currently had due to someone placing a cache without permission in a sensitive dunes area. He wanted to give a bit back by having a group of more sseasoned cachers take around a bunch of newbies (park visitors…13 in all) to teach them a bit about geocaching. The caches were great and very appropriate for the event. The park workers had prizes for people, and were thankful for all of the help of the seasoned cachers. (They even had hot cider, doughnut and other goodies)

Dumpa demonstrated, in my opinion, one of the best examples of what we need in order to ensure positive relations with the DNR and to the future of successful geocaching in our great state! Hopefully he will be an example of what other cachers in other parts of the state can learn and build from!

I just sent email to DUMPA expressing my feelings and thank you for the event. I was unable to attend due to prior family obligations.

Ray, as well as those who attended, worked hard to change the negative into a positive.

I think that each of use, when we stoop down to pick up that piece of litter, or we stop to say thank you to the park staff, or we patiently explain our hobby to others, or we send emails to new geocachers who have found one of our geocachers, help our organization.

Geocachers, like Dumpa, go beyond the call.

I found out about this event when Uncle Fun posted it on a thread. I knew it would be a long drive for us but thought weather permitting we would attend. We have no regrets. Ray did an outstanding job. I posted about 5 pictures while logging my finds for this event. The waypoint name is GCMAKC. When you have some spare time, check out everyones logs and pictures. Tami
