I have a question. Once you downloaded and used it to find the cache how do you delete it from your favorites? I can delete it from recent finds but canāt figure out how remove it otherwise.
I have found that if I changeĀ the cache iconĀ of a treasure chest to a found cache icon of an open chest Nuvi will gladly delete the entry entirely.Ā Ā Ā Forever.
07/06/2015 at 3:55 pm #2041072If we are within 3/4 of a mile from a cache we get a notification that pops up at the top of the Nuvi screen. It also shows the cache details if you click on the cache..
I need a step by step on how to do this. Today I was very frustrated by an impromptu road trip and being the driver, I couldnāt tell if a cache was a multi, traditional or what, by what was on the Nuvi.
Try visiting the GSAK Forums on their website. I’ve found the techies there to be very helpful with questions.

This is outdate but it is what I used to learn how to do it:Ā http://geocaching.williamsonnetwork.com/index.html
07/07/2015 at 7:47 am #2041088That’s what I had originally used to set up and load my first Nuvi too using the old version of GSAK. The old version of GSAK isn’t supported any more though and I don’t believe these instructions will work with the newer version. There are newer macros that make the process more efficient however.

I use the new version of GSAK and that is what I still use.Ā Works for me.Ā I have tried other macros but can’t get them to work the same way.Ā What macro are you using?
07/12/2015 at 9:51 am #2041234NuviExport.gsk It definitely doesn’t work the same way…but it gets me to where I’m going. Then I depend on my handheld for all the other info I need.

11/10/2016 at 8:01 am #2052289Bartrod I do the opposite of what you mentioned. If you load them as POIās (points of interest), it only gives you limited info, such as the GC number. If you load it as favorites/geocaches, it will show you (if you set it up that way) the GC#, Cache Title, D/T, description, and coordinates. I actually prefer to see that data on my Nuvi. Having said that, if loaded as favorites, it is potentially trickier to delete them. There are I think three different macros in GSAK that one can use to transfer geocaches to Nuviās, not counting the āexport to Garmin POIā command in the file menu (which is a point of interest, not a favorite). Iām only familiar with the master reset option to erase the favorites but there may be other ways. A master reset will erase all favorites and will restore your GPSr to the default factory settings. To perform a master reset on most NUVIās: While the NUVI is OFF, press and hold the lower right hand corner of the touchscreen Power on the device while continuing to hold the display Remove your finger from the touchscreen when āErase all user data?ā appears and then select āYesā The device will now reset, and all favorites will be erased. Youāll potentially need to re-enter your preferences and any favorites youād like to keep (such as home address) A master reset only takes a matter of minutes so itās not as bad as it sounds, but you may have to re-enter some information.
I have a Nuvi 1300LM which I don’t use much anymore. A while back after a map update I noticed that a bunch of old caches had reappeared and because I didn’t have much else on the thing I thought I’d try this master reset thing. Guess what, it removed the few favorites I had entered BUT NONE of the CACHES.

I found on my new Nuvi model that I could delete caches by plugging it into my computer, opening the Nuvi file, and deleting the caches from the gpx file. I don’t know if that would work for your 1300 but give it a try and see what happens.

11/10/2016 at 9:28 am #2052292I open the GPX file and find nothing but a folder labeled Archive, a file labeled *****lpt, and a file labeled current.

If you open the Archive file, delete any in there. And do the same with the current file unless there’s any in there you don’t want deleted.

I have been in touch with Garmin support via email and they say that there are no geocaches in the Archive folder but that I can delete that anytime I want with no harm. I’m guessing that as you drive down the road and the Nuvi keeps updating the page the old data gets shoved into the archive folder.
The files I can’t do anything with, my computer says it can’t open them and I’m beginning to think that they have been corrupted and I may have to get NSA to crack them.
11/25/2016 at 11:34 am #2052406After a week of working with Garmin support via e-mail, both of my Nuvis remained corrupted. The final suggestion was to give them a call via phone and talk with a real engineer. I phoned them and the rep I talked with suggested manually deleting them, you know, highlighting the cache on the screen and tapping Delete. When I told him that that method didn’t work as a permanent solution, he said ” it always works for me”.
Does anyone know if Tom Tom has any of these problems.
