Anyone interested in learning to go paperless in the Madison Area?

I am pretty proficient at it using GSAK/Palm/cachemate

Need to complete the event cache for the coin quest, so this would help out some others as well.
Or just a standard meet and greet event?

Thats even further away than Milwaukee for us.
would be glad to try and assist through here or e-mail though.
I forgot what devices you have.

I have been mostly paperless since I started using GSAK/Palm/Cachemate/Garmin etrex.

It would be nice to see Madison events and I would try to help out with any paperless teaching events.

I’ll certainly let you know if I get much interest. you would have a slight variation as I use magellan meridian gold.

I’ve done both the cable uploads as well as SD card uploads with GSAK.

I was suprised by the time it takes for a cable upload, if you are transferring any significant number of waypoints it is worth taking out the card to do the SD card transfer.

I work with ExecLink and he’s trying to help me go paperless. But I need to see the whole works. So I’m definitely interested in a class/event.

I hope that when you are teaching this, you don’t place a charge on it. I hate it when someone makes people pay for helping them learn an easier way to “cache”!

now there is an idea… charging for this

no, I wouldn’t be charging for a paperless event. As there does seem to be some interest, I would like to have some feedback as to if saturdays or sundays works better.

Our paperless software/hardware consists of standard Windows PC, GC premium membership pocket queries, GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), CacheMate, a Palm M500 PDA, and Magellan Meridian Gold GPSr.

I know there is other software available, some of it free, and I can try and investigate those options as well, unless there is someone else that would want to assist in the event showing other software.

[Anyone interested in learning to go paperless in the Madison Area?]
    ***********************************

Replaced my first comment with this one.

I’d be very interested in participating in “going paperless” training in the Madison area. Any day would be fine, or evenings as well. I’d be using a Palm E2, Garmin 76c along with Gsak & Cachemate on a Dell laptop.

Thanks for the offer, much appreciated.

Don’t worry MB, you are the only one we would ever charge at an event.

Ok, There is definately enough interest in this to do.

I will begin looking for a location for this that would have internet access so that the entire process can been shown, and tried.

It will be after Christmas, so anyone that is interested should put a PDA on their christmas list then can get everything they need at the event to go paperless. I’ll make sure to have some CDs with the relevant software available.

PDA, on the XMas list, is a little to vague for my mother. I’m willing to take the paperless step, however, I’ve done zero for research. I’m looking for PDA recommendations. What should be avoided? Anyone have a link addressing this issue? I guess mfg, model and $ would work as well. Thanks for any input.

hmmmm…. …I think not…we’ve all seen events where there are charges to “learn” what we do. Nice try though…

The event I helped with for the Parks and Recreation Dept charged a couple of dollars a head to be sure of a fairly firm head count for us. There was no intent to reap any profits.

MB – I guess we should get to that shopping trip we’ve been talking about so I can pick one out.
