Speaking of FTFs on State Park caches, grabbed the Lake Kegonsa one this morning with a couple of lil hippie helpers! Now I need to plan some roadtrips to clear the rest of that bookmark list. 😀

Sounds like a worthy goal! And a cool challenge, if anyone creates it…

The BOD has been talking about putting out a challenge cache. We just haven’t been able to decide what the challenge and/or prize should be. Thoughts?

The challenge: either find them all or find at least half (why not create both challenges).

The prize: Two things come to mind.

First, perhaps a nice geocoin for FTF, such as the annual Groundspeak lackey geocoin. Anyone completing the challenge will likely already have a WGA coin.

Second, how about having a traveling golden ammobox that is brought to WGA events and is autographed by those who complete the full challenge. There used to be one of those for whomever completed 1,000 finds that we saw at the LCG event as recently as 2011. I think the ceremony disappeared shortly after that because we haven’t seen it since and didn’t get an opportunity to sign it after we reached that milestone. Plus there are significantly more people who have reached that milestone by now. At the LCG (Lonely cache Game) event it was a formal presentation for those who reached the milestone. That could be fun to see once/year (or more) at the annual LCG event. The traveling golden ammo box could be stored in the WGA hauler perhaps.

          Good ideas. Keep them coming.

Another thought – inside the golden box could be an item available only to those that complete the challenge. Perhaps also a special log book inside where they could briefly relate their favorite state park or state park adventure.

I don’t think finding all of them as a challenge wouldn’t be publishable. Challenges can’t be that cache specific.

I wonder if we could solicit Groundspeak for an exception? Mr. G is right that one can no longer create a challenge based on only one cacher’s hides (in this case the WGA is the cache owner of all of them). Don’t know if there is a similar rule for a specific series. Since many hid them and not just one person, and given the nature of the theme (state parks), maybe they would allow?

If they don’t allow it, we could still go with the “golden box” on our own at WGA events, or create a challenge for the 49 state parks but not necessarily all of them would have to be the official WGA state park caches; perhaps just 50%+ of them. So something like “find a cache in all 49 state parks, with at least 50% of them being from the new WGA State Park series.”

It’s not just the “all placed by one hider” thing that GC doesn’t allow… It’s identifying specific caches that need to be found to complete a challenge. Now, you can specify some other things, like find so many in each quadrant of the state or something similar, but the cachers can still choose which ones they want to do to meet the challenge.

That is my suggestion, to divide it up by quadrant. My suggestion is to find, oh, maybe 30 total with at least 5 in each quadrant to sign the log on the challenge cache.

And then I’d love to see the WGA make up a pathtag with the state parks series logo (if we ever get one) on it. Then people could purchase it, maybe even wear it like a pin, if they are interested. Or maybe just a seperate one that the WGA would give out to anyone who found them all? The problem with that, though, is that it would be very expensive to buy them initially and then just hang on to them for the years it will take many to finish them all.

If we’re putting the names of the TB Race winners on the WGA Hauler, perhaps the cachers that finish the SP Challenge can sign the side of the Hauler in a designated area, along with the date they completed it.

I would be happy with any form of dark chocolate. 🙂

I like the idea of a “reward” — I was thinking a pathtag, too — for completing all the WGA SP caches, maybe mail it to each finisher or have one SP in each quadrant that the WGA works with to have the “reward” at those parks to be picked up in person with some kind of note or something that the WGA sends to each… maybe a code word that is cacher-specific that is given to both the finisher and the SP personnel.

                  example:

Beccaday finishes all 49 caches and notifies the WGA that this is completed and also at which park she wants to pick up her reward, say, Harrington Beach. (The chosen parks each have, say, a dozen of these reward items on hand.) The WGA says, Your code word is “butterfly.” Then the WGA emails Harrington Beach SP that beccaday will be coming in for her WGA SP reward, and she should tell them that her code word is “butterfly”. Beccaday goes to Harrington Beach SP, explains who she is and why she’s there to someone in the office, tells them her code word is “butterfly”, and the office person checks on a list in the envelope that has the pathtags or other reward, sees that beccaday needs to tell them “butterfly”, and then gives her the pathtag or reward.

Or spend fifty cents and mail it to her. Simpler.

The WGA presenting some kind of reward instead of having a final challenge cache would take care of any cache requirements that GC might place on a final. Keep control with the WGA.
