Ya, so would anyone be interested in a group canoe/kayak trip down the Namakagon River? Starting in Cable and maybe ending in Hayward. I had to make a trip to Cable this morning to pick some stuff up for my wife. So I decided to grab a sandwich and take the back roads home and eat my lunch at one of my all time favorite spots along the river and it got me to thinking about some sort of event. I have never canoed this part of the river. It’s a little bit slower and narrower than the lower half. I’m also not sure just how long it would take but there are about 3 or 4 different spots to take out. There is also a landing just down the road from the KOA campground. My work schedule is pretty busy and my wife’s wedding calendar is also packed. I’m thinking like a late August/early September maybe. Or maybe do it in the Spring of next year. For many, many years, my dad, uncle cousin and myself would take a trip down the river the Easter Saturday. Like I said, Just a thought and would like to know if anyone might be interested.

P.S. Any caches on it, or will you be putting out temps? 😉

There are also a couple places that rent canoes and kayaks.
As for caches….caches on NSP property(on either side of the river) are a no go. But they say that every year thay look into it. If a Park Rager comes up to you and ask you what you are doing, say just hiking, If you say geocaching they will give you a ticket right there on the spot! A couple of $$$. I do have a few cache along the river where they are legal to to be..05/31/2011 at 10:48 pm #1948584$$$? Gulp! Got it!

$$$= Trasspassing on Park Property. I know of one person who got a ticket.

Not that we’re against experiencing that beautiful river in the way that most people do, and maybe there would be all sorts of plant and animal like to contend with on the Big Island at this time of year (most seem to visit those caches over hard water), but logistics might be easier on the lake.
And we were planning to bring up the canoe on one of our visits to Hayward sometime…
06/08/2011 at 3:02 am #1948587I’d be interested but I have very limited amount of weekends off so I may need a little notice to take off if necessary.
06/13/2011 at 2:21 am #1948588Note that there are a significant number of canoe liveries on the upper Namekagon, so you would not need to take your own boat if it isn’t appropriate. We canoed in an 18 foot Old Town Discovery during summer levels (not exactly a nimble craft) and had no trouble.
