I have never played it and have no idea how it works…..We I kinda do. I can set one up on Yahoo if there are enough interested. I’m not a big nascar fan, but i do tend to follow it a bit. I dunno. Just thought I ask.

Now seriously..how the heck you have a fantasy league about people going around in circles? Its not like they get anywhere but right back where they started!

At least they don’t have to worry about getting lost.

Geocachers and Nascar?? It just seems like an unholy union.

Here is a link to the rules page.http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/racing/rules/rrules-01.html
You have to pick 8 drivers from 3 different list. And then before qualifying, you have to pick 4 as you “starters”. The season is split into 2 halfs. You can only use a drive for 9 races too. For more details, look in the rules.

    Go fast, turn left…

    …boring!

    How about an F1 League?

I’ve participated in an office league using ESPN’s stock car challenge in the past. I was horrible.. it seems you have to follow Nascar extremely closely every bit of the way to even do “well”. The occasional fan won’t do real well if you are not well versed in which tracks each of the dozens of racers does well at and all of the history behind those races and those drivers. It does add a bit more excitement to “watching cars drive in circles for hours”… However, it’s usually the wrong kind of excitement. For instance, when over half your drivers are out of the race early on that can be very hard to recover from using your other selections. Not even a first place would recover you enough when someone else has all drivers finishing (even if they place like 15th, 20th, 35th, etc.)

If I remember correctly, the ESPN stockcar challenge was like “buying” on the open market. You had so many “points” to work with and values of drivers went up and down each week. So you had to think through your “team” selection very carefully and making a switch for one race was tough and sometimes painful because you might want to choose someone for that race but they are so “expensive” the rest of your picks just suck. And once you gave up a “low priced Jeff Gordon” or whatever, you often could not get them back. (bad example here just bear with me).

Our office pool threw in money (off the record here…) and each week there was money handed out for the top finisher and for the top 3 finishers at the end of the “season”.

I checked their page and there’s no mention of the 08 season as of yet. However, there are some threads on their boards regarding start dates of a new challenge year.

Just thought I would mention this alternative to the yahoo one. Still not sure I am interested because of not being as dire hard of a fan as it seems to take to do “well” in these fantasy sports…

I’m interested. I’ve done the yahoo league the last 2 years with about a dozen Nascar fanatics. In fact, the league included a couple guys and a gal that have a weekly Nascar show on AM 1250 here in SE Wisconsin (Sparky, Steve Z and Summer). I never really got into racing that much, but figured I’d see how good I could do against the know it alls. First year I brought home the crown and this past year I took 3rd. LOL I’m waiting for them to have me on the show and see what they say when I tell them I either throw darts or my wife picks her favorite colors. Just like fantasy football, it comes done to luck. Sure, you can increase your odds of having a good week, but anything can happen on any given Sunday.

You get to choose 2 drivers in group A, 4 in group B, and 2 in group C. This must be done before qualifying. Next you select 1, 2 and 1 respectively from each group to be your active drivers. You earn points based on the final position. Bonus points are awarded for the top qualifiers regardless if you started them or not. Additional points are awarded for and # of laps led. Yahoo ranks the drivers at the beginning of the season and places them into the 3 groups with the top drivers going to group A.
