Any suggestions on caches “truly” worth doing in Utah? I prefer Earthcaches and/or something with at least a view or historic value. Nothing with a T/D rating over 2.5. We will also be in the Grand Canyon area. We will be taking I80 west to Salt Lake, helter skelter through Utah and I70 back to Denver for a few days. Any quick stops “worth the visit” along that route would also be nice? I am looking for top quality caches, not Pocket Query generated lists. This is more of a planned sightseeing/mineral/fossil hunting trip than a geocaching trip, but a few “top quality caches” will expand the whole vacation. Any help would be appreciated.

Nice spot halfway between Cheyenne and SLC – a bit more than just a leg-stretcher, at the historic remains of an Overland Stage stop. Nice “short” 2.5/2.5 hot & dusty hike to the cache. Don’t go sticking your hand in any holes out there, though! 😯

We found it enjoyable and memorable……photo-worthy to a Midwesterner. 🙂

    Hope this helps.

Where will you be in Utah? While I had only just started caching the last time I was there, it is by far one of my favorite states to visit. Depending on what area you may be, I’d have different recommendations.

Ooops! Just noticed the cache referred to in our previous posting evaporated (hot out there!). Here it is again: GCKTTA

we are hoping to cover most of utah, south of salt lake city on a zigzag course that meanders all over utah from the eastside to the westside. natural bridges, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Grand Canyon National Park, flaming gorge, cedar breaks, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, zion, bryce and arches. not to mention some of the smaller parks, mineral and fossil sites, earthcaches and whatever. hitting u-dig fossils for sure.

I think SGH & BB have been that way, might want to pm them. 🙂

WOW. That’s a lot of territory and stuff to see! Based on my more recent trips and the parks you’ve mentioned, here are a few highlights I’d recommend. Most are virtuals or ECs:

    Moab Area:
    1. Check out this cache (GC264Z7) and the others along the road it is on. Very picturesque drive.
    2. The symbol of Utah and a nice hike. GC177KB
    3. Can’t help but drive by this one if you’re in the park. GCZD91
    4. In Canyonlands. Spectacular view and great photo op. GCHQGR

    Zion NP:
    1. The last part of this hike is not for acrophobiacs, but the hike is on my top 5 list of favorites of all time! Only wish I had been caching at the time I went so I could officially log it. GCG2ZP
    2. Takes a bit (and a permit) to get here, but well worth it. GC1YH84
    3. A must stop destination. GCZ5YD

Actually, we will do the Tour de Utah towards the end of summer for a couple of weeks. The BB has three or four bookmark’s going right now.

But you must at least check out BakRdz’s aforementioned “Angel’s Landing” GCG2ZP………..just look at the posted pixs, topo or sat view of this!

    AMAZING ❗
Or, would you be NUTZ to go up there ❓

Listening to BakRdz describe hiking there is a combo of both!
    YIKES!
    😀 😀

Here’s a photo of me at the start of the trail leading from Scouts Landing out to Angels Landing.

If you want to get a look of the trail along the way, this is a great site that shows pics from the trailhead to the final.

The hike to Scouts Landing is doable for most. It’s only the last few hundred yards to Angels Landing that ups the terrain stars.

Just the topic I was looking for. Glad The Google pointed me back to my favorite site. Any more caches I should look for in the Moab area.

Chris, if you go to Canyonlands National Park, I just LOVED the hike to this EarthCache:  GC1N2QC

And this is the iconic area shot of the Colorado river:  GCZCZM  I didn’t get to do that one but wish I would have had the time to visit there.

And on the way we stopped at GC11YHR.  That one was a quick PNG (mostly) but it was a cool view.

Anything in Arches NP is gorgeous!  You will love it there.  I really wanted to do the hike to the Delicate Arch but it was 106 degrees when we were there and we didn’t quite have enough water for that hike.  But the EC there has several different options for completing it if you can’t make it all the way up to the arch.

And for a quick, fun one in Moab visit GCXK9D.

Hippies were just at Zion a few weeks ago doing the half-marathon. They did some caches, too.
