I was in Green Lake this weekend for our storytelling board meeting, and got an email from home about the flooding with last night’s rain. Came home right away (instead of heading east a few miles to grab two more delorme pages) and they’ve been running a rented rug doctor all morning. Some stuff was wrecked, we’re waiting to see how badly it stinks. But it could be much worse. There were some deaths and others who had significant damage due to landslides.

Hope everyone here is not any worse off than we are!

I’ve been following the flash flooding in the local news, and parts of Rushford MN have been evacuated. The entire town of Houston MN has been evacuated at this point. I know our friend Brett/lagrac is in Rushford, and just saw photos of the downtown underwater. Brett, hope you and Bismarck are somewhere safe. No extreme underwater caching attempts, okay? 😉

Wow, I wish we could have got a little bit (but not all) of that rain up here. We haven’t had any real rainfall in a couple of months up here. It is as dry as a bone up here (in fact there is a burning ban for the entire UP and most of MI right now), and I sat and watched the Packers game Saturday night and it rained almost the whole game. 🙄

Sorry to hear about all the flooding and trouble the rain has caused in your area. I hope that you all come out of it alright.

Wow!! I was awaken to the pounding of the Rushford Police department at about 3:30am Sunday morning. Two of the levys in town failed, and the water is coming. I live on the 2nd Story so Bismarck was ok. But my car needed to be moved ASAP. I moved it alot higher Then it was time to check on my elderly friends. I ended up moving 5 other cars to higher ground. I work in Winona, so this morning as I tried to leave town, the National Guard said that if I leave, I couldn’t come back, so we are at a hotel in Winona right now.

p.s. I cached in the rain Saturday SE of Eau Claire (Augusta)… the things I do for fun!

Well, I woke up to ankle deep water in the basement today if that counts. The sump pump quit working in the middle of the night (I think they are designed to do that!). I went right to Menard’s this morning for a replacement and the shelves were empty. I went up to the service counter to ask if they had more in back, and was told “NOPE we’re all out”, while at the same time I’m looking at 6 of them on the shelf behind the guy. All of them with big red hold stickers on them with “contractor this” and “contractor that” written on them.

So, I asked the guy again, “You sure you’re out?”. “Uh huh” was his reply. So I said, “what about those ones right behind you?”. He said, “Oh no, those are reserved for some contractors who called ahead of time. So, I walked around the counter and picked one up, and walked away. The guy yells to me “hey, you can’t take that, it’s reserved I told you”. I replied, “Yeah, well you lied to me, now you can lie to them, it’s all good.”

Hey, I got mine. First come, first served. 😈

Brett, Thanks for checking in, glad everyone’s okay. Hey, is the road passable from here to Winona yet? We just got back from buying a new cachemobile, which we get on Wednesday. Trekkin’ figures we need to burn off the tank full of gas in the old van tomorrow! LOL

I’m suggesting Black River Falls myself. More high ground there, but we do want to do your earthcache, too.
