I have read about these before, and it sounds like a hoot!
If there is enough interest, I would be on board to organize, and get one started. I think I have done enough research to do it up right.
Any interest?
04/06/2010 at 6:50 pm #1926956I’m in.
I’ve become quite jaded about putting out travel bugs because our most traveled one made two stops. I have a couple of numbers that I can recycle.
Where are we racing to?04/06/2010 at 6:58 pm #1926957I’m game! I have a tag just waiting to be released.
04/06/2010 at 7:02 pm #1926958Don’t know yet! I figured I would see if there was interest before I got too deep in the details.
My first thoughts;
1)Start in the same starting cache, then earn points based on number of caches stopped in, total distance traveled, events attended by trackable, extra points for being Mega events of course, etc. Most points after a set time wins!!
2)Similar concept, but set a certain goal for each racer to obtain (be logged in x different counties or states, be logged at a CITO event, etc.)
Witha checklist style tag to travel with, first to get a whole tag checked off wins.3)Find a willing participant in a far off land, or far off state at least (I know a couple) collect all the designated racers, ship them to said far away place, let them race back to a local designated cache. (probably a finish line cache that would be created just for the race) First one back wins!!
Either way, it would be a fun time I think!

A cacher in The Netherlands has put out a TB with a goal of getting back to me. It’s been out about a year, but has only traveled about 80 miles. 😕 (TB2AY18)04/06/2010 at 7:36 pm #1926960What got me thinking about starting one up for the WGA was a friend of mine who dropped of a couple when he was in Germany. once for each family member, and tried to get them to race home.
I like the points gathering concept, as it is much easier as a “helpful participant” to log a few caches in a day, or take along the traveler to a CITO event, rather than move it long distances.
Of course, points would be awarded for distance as well, but it helps to average out those that don’t move very fast.
I think a specific theme for the racers would be fun too once we decide on the format. All have to be wheeled vehicles for the race home concept, or all need to be cheese related, or some such nonsense to add to the fun.
04/06/2010 at 8:08 pm #1926961I don’t have any bugs yet, but if you gave me a few weeks I would order a few, and defiantly put them in the race. There is a lot of ways this can be done! Keep me posted!!
04/06/2010 at 8:35 pm #1926962Will do! I think aiming for a start around the same time as the WGA campout would be a good idea, that would give folks a good 6-7 weeks?
04/06/2010 at 9:42 pm #1926963I am actually in one of these. A friend of mine from MN notified me of this and we both entered a TB earlier this year. Mine is near the bottom of those entered so far but I hold out hope. The web address for this race is:
I would be up to enter a TB as well.
04/07/2010 at 3:06 am #1926964I have a spare tag I think. I’m in.
04/07/2010 at 4:11 am #1926965I’d get in on this, too. I have an extra tag that I’ve been meaning to send out.
04/07/2010 at 3:41 pm #1926966Sounds like there is plenty of interest! Great!
Any thoughts on a format everyone?
If no one has any feelings any other way, I’ll get started writing up a rule set, and get some more details hammered out, then we can move ahead full force.
04/08/2010 at 12:14 pm #1926967i,m ready. tb in hand.
04/08/2010 at 2:30 pm #1926968I have a few spare tags, I just need something to attach them too.
04/08/2010 at 5:31 pm #1926969I think we’re going to need an event to launch them!
