I have my eye on two caches in IL which look like a blast. Anyone want to come with us to do them? Just so you know, I have children so anyone coming would need to be OK with going at a child’s pace. Here they are:

    GC2BG09 The Morley Shipwreck
    GC2D6FZ Tunnelin’

The first one at least should probably be soon before it gets too cold to go into the water. I would assume we’d need to either bring a boat of some sort or rent one there so that would possibly cost us something.

Oh no! I just noticed that the last few logs on the shipwreck are DNF’s. I don’t have a date yet but it would have to be in a few weeks so maybe it will be fixed by then.

You’ll need more than a boat, Bec. It’s 20 feet down.

Bring the boat, I’ll bring the scuba gear.

Ah yes, we’ve been looking into options for getting down there. And if you’re serious RSplash, that would be great! My 8-year-old really wants to do this cache. At least one adult (my husband or I) would go down with him while the other one of us would stay up with the boat(s). It will require some more planning but I would love to do it.

I actually sent a message to the CO to see if they planned on doing maintenance any time soon and got the following response:

    “Hi Becca,

Thanks for reaching out to me. My son and I checked the cache this Tuesday, after the prior logs were written, and can verify that it’s still in place. I emailed one of the guys from the group and it sounds like they had problems with logistics – a canoe isn’t a very good diving platform – and perhaps bad luck with visibility. I’ll be on vacation the week after next, but any other time just let me know when you’re planning to look for the Morley and my son and I will be happy to verify its condition for you. If you have any other questions as time approaches, I’m also glad to help there as well. Take care”

What a great cache owner! 🙂

Well, I did some youtubing and internet links to that wreck people there say 12feet, easily reachable with snorkel even if you haven’t done it for a while but I would need a boat for sure… canoe wouldn’t cut it , right cat?

It was sort of off the cuff response but would have some interest, problem is there’s no way I can do it until september unless I win the lottery.

Depending on when you go, the boys and I would probably be game. Unfortunately, if it’s anytime soon the whole newborn thing would probably keep me at home. 🙁
