I am trying to figure out if they do cemetery hides over there or not. PQ doesn’t work to find out, and the search function requires keyword OR state, right, not both.
There is a church with a cemetery in far northeastern Iowa that is right off the pages of a calendar. And pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It would be a great place for cachers to visit, but not being from there or part of the Iowa geocommunity, I don’t know the typical “rules” there.
I tried checking out their state forums but haven’t found any insight that way. I’ll give it one more try, though.

I have not come across too many.
kabrand is the approver for Iowa. Does he like cemetery caches?

I stopped at this church last Friday on my way to check out the Peregrine nest site near Harpers Ferry and spotted a couple little quick waysides, plus this really neat spot, that begged for caches. There are very few in this corner of Iowa.
Originally I’d wanted to do an earthcache where the falcons are nesting, but it’s too close to the tracks and the location itself isn’t all that exciting. I’m going to rethink that one, but I would like to put a couple others out, since no one else seems to be covering this corner of Iowa.

Kabrand? 😛
Whether or not I like cemetery caches is not the issue. What counts is Groundspeak’s position on them. Here’s some insight about that:

On the subject, I have heard comments that some states, such as Minnesota, do not willing approve caches involving cemeteries. The comment was phrased such that it implied the state approvers did not feel it appropriate, and would not approve any.
Since I see so few cemetery caches for Iowa, I thought perhaps you followed this train of thought.
Do you have any idea how many such caches there might be in Iowa?
10/14/2007 at 7:59 pm #1880024Trekkin and Birdin if you don’t mind me asking but what church are you asking about? would it happened to be “the little brown church”?
10/14/2007 at 8:12 pm #1880025Sounds like it to me …..in Nashua(?).
10/14/2007 at 8:27 pm #1880026Nope, that one isn’t too far from us, either, but the one I’m thinking of is the Wexford Catholic Church on the Great River Road between Lansing and Harpers Ferry. It truly is the kind of “I’d never have come here if not for gc” kind of place.
