Mike, are you looking just at the Apostle Islands area or any place with lakes?
I know of a few National camp grounds that are Rustic, spaced pretty good.
One is in Delta, one Drummond- This one could be busy and one near Grandview that I do not think gets used all that much but is on one of the best lakes in WI. Lake Namekagon, Namekagon Campground. There are also some nice rustic camp National campgrounds over by Clam lake.

    Bayfield County Campgrounds info.

We are looking for someplace to go where we would not normally take kids because we have the rare opportunity to stick both kids in summer camp during the same week…I mean, a rare opportunity for our kids to….an who am I kidding!

Camping on or at least visiting the Apostles is something we would not otherwise probably do. Just not sure we have the right watercraft if conditions aren’t ideal.

    Ok.
Well, Lake Namekagon is a big body of water. There is also a lot of Mnt bike trails in the area also there is the North County Scenic Trail with some old caches on it. Lake Namekagon is about 45 mins or so from Bayfield so you could spend a good day up there depending on the weather. Maybe renting sea kayaks could be an option also.

Another option maybe the fairly new Legendary Waters Casino. They run the Buffalo Bay Campground and the Rustic Point Detour campground.

We really enjoyed the camping when we went up the Fortune Bay Casino a few years ago in Mn.
Take a look, do some research and if I can be any help, let me know.
