Appleton Visit- Any Recommendations?

Hi, Visiting Appleton on a Sat/Sun trip in the next couple weekends. Any recommendations as far as winter-friendly caches? We will try snowshoeing- as first-timers do you think Bubolz or Highcliff better? Any unique places/restaurants we shouldn’t miss? Thanks much for your thoughts!

My 2 cents:

I hid the caches in Woodland Prairie on the SE side of Appleton to be mostly winter friendly- the one that are not are larger caches that should not be too much of an issue.

There are 10 caches in this Town of Menasha undeveloped park. Reference GC4TQHX for the caches nearby. Many have snowshoed there. Good variety of sizes and difficulties.

I think many/most of the High Cliff caches are on the ground. It’s been too long since I cached Bubolz but I can suggest it as a snowshoeing destination. Great spot.

I am not sure if you use GSAK or not but I use it to filter caches that have been found since we have had snow on the ground. In my database – updated yesterday – there are 314 caches that have been found since December 20th ( About when I remember having Snow cover ) Now I live in Appleton and have it cached thin so these are only in my PQ of those I have not found. That covers From Oshkosh to GB. I would think there would be quite a bit more just in Appleton that I have already found.

Just a Suggestion that helps me when I go to a new area.

As far as Individual Caches to do? Stay away from mine – Nothing special about them but they should all be winter friendly. Any of the Over Under through might be a good hunt this time of year – unless this weather stays warm. Good hides be prepared to look for awhile. Bus Stops here are all winter friendly but those are for numbers – easy hides.

I would also recommend Walking Adventure’s hides at Woodland Prairie. We did those about a month ago with about a foot of snow on the ground and found all of them. We didn’t snowshoe, but you might want to now.

We now have about six feet of snow I think. 😀

Thanks all for the helpful tips. And, Lack Nothing, I was wondering about the snow conditions. We had a couple great, warm days- then rain- that took care of some of ours. 🙂 FYI- I found a book called “Great WI Winter Weekends” a nice starting point for this trip. Sounds like Woodland Prairie is where we’ll head. 🙂 Thanks again! Appreciate all your replies…
