My cache “Glow In The Dark” has not seen a visitor (other than myself) for over 2 and a half months. I cannot for the life of me figure out why nobody is finding this one. Am I missing something? I’m thinking of pulling it out soon if nobody finds it.
07/17/2003 at 3:56 am #1745516I can’t speak for others but personally I don’t do caches at night in the summertime. Mosquitos and poison ivy are even more vicious after dark. Having said that, I will say that Glow In The Dark is an excellent geocache that everyone should try.
07/17/2003 at 9:49 am #1745517This is a very unique hunt. I would keep it. This was one of the early caches I found that got me hooked on the game. It was especially spooky for me because I went to find it after seeing the horror movie “The Ring”. Boy did I have the heebie jeebies!
Have you checked it lately though? I wonder if the reflectors have weathered. But then again if someone couldn’t find it wouldn’t they log it or make a note?
07/17/2003 at 7:01 pm #1745518Don’t feel discouraged–we loved that cache and frequently tell others about it. It’s a wonderful nighttime cache. I do agree that summer may be a little quiet because of mosquitoes and the like.
We have a fairly new cache in Racine–Ponder this Puzzle–that hasn’t had a visitor in over a month. For being new, we’re a little surprised. I think these things just have ups and downs.

BTW Mr Tie, I haven’t seen your log at our Diamond in the Rough.

07/17/2003 at 8:47 pm #1745520We loved the cache. It would be a shame to see it gone, but if no one is hunting it…..
07/18/2003 at 12:56 am #1745521Keep it going! Only reason that I can think of is that it is in a Waukesha county park where you have to pay to enter. Maybe check the cache logs at Nagawaukee and Menomonee parks. You might find that those have been seldom visited too. That would validate the fee being the discouragement.
I’ve noticed that my Rebecca’s cache has not been searched for even though I simplified it to a conventional cache. It’s members only but I did that because it is a sensitive area and I only want serious geocacher’s to hunt it.]
I figure, keep it and they will come.
07/18/2003 at 1:36 am #1745522Personally, since I am slow to find things, I am waiting until later in the year when the nights are longer. I wouldn’t feel rushed if I started looking around 6pm, instead of 8pm or 9pm.
07/18/2003 at 2:16 am #1745523Perhaps people just aren’t over that Cold War Era fear of radiation yet. Glow In the Dark may be a name that is instilling fear in the masses, who think you might have a radiation point source stashed in there.

I agree with “Keep it going” but find it hard to believe the county park fee would keep hunters away. If the Waukesha county parks get more popular as hiding spots, remember there’s a very reasonable priced annual sticker.
Personally I like the fact that those (including ME) who use these parks help pay for their care & feeding needs…

07/18/2003 at 3:05 am #1745525Okay, Okay, Okay…. I’ll leave it in (for now) I have been back to check it (even at night) and had to replace one reflector, so now everything should still be in place. The parking co-ords that I give allow hunters to bypass the park entrance and thus bypass the fee. It is just a little easier to hunt if you park inside of the park, and supporting these places isn’t a bad thing either. I’m also thinking of doing another one, bigger, better, and longer, probably in the same park. Whew!
07/19/2003 at 12:38 pm #1745526Please keep it up. I have told my nieces about this one and they want to come along. Summer is too busy, though… they are from divorced families and have to spend time away from home alot… one going to Vegas for the summer. I am sure there are others in this same predicament. The fee might slow some down… my husband is one that avoids the pay spots. But, like was said… you can by pass that or get an annual sticker. Like your idea of putting out a new one… go for it! I find alot of people might be going to the cache and not logging it. I think some people are just in it for the fun and not logging on line.
07/19/2003 at 2:50 pm #1745527Definately keep it up. That is a good cache. Don’t get too discouraged by lack of finds, check this one out that I did last week.
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=49The cache is over 3 years old and only 15 finds.
07/24/2003 at 2:45 pm #1745528Please keep it active. I have set up a private cache called “In Search of The Enchanted Garden” at Camp Winding River which is a Girl Scout Camp near Neosho. It was inspired by Glow In The Dark. The campers use the GPSr to find gnomes around camp that have puzzle pieces. When the puzzle is put together it sends them on a reflector trail to the Enchanted Garden. So far over 200 campers have done the hunt and I personally know of 7 new cacher families that are now active in the area. Glow In The Dark is a classic.
