Do you try to keep all of your geocaching stuff together in one spot at home? If so, where is it, how much space do you dedicate to it, and what kind of stuff is located there? If not, tell us stories anyway.
01/27/2009 at 9:15 pm #1901208We are still pretty new to this, but we are organized pretty good I think.
We keep all our stuff in the home office.
Backpack with several bags in it, a bag for coins and TB’s that need to move on, a bag for swag, gps, laptop, tethering cable, spare ziplock bags, trail snacks, flashlight, camera, first aid kit, etc.clear plastic box contains any items we traded at the cache for that we want to keep.
Log book in clear plastic box of whenwhatwhere everything came from
I find I can grab the pack and go when I need to, with my blackberry tethered to my netbook i can get internet access just about anywhere to look at geocaching.com if I need to look at a hint, otherwise I just go with the waypoints on the gps.
01/27/2009 at 9:16 pm #1901209Boy, someone is really bored!
01/27/2009 at 9:23 pm #1901210If by “in one spot” you mean in the same building, then yes. 😉
Actually, the area taken up by geocaching related stuff has been getting smaller. It’s mostly in our around a single plastic tote.
Our spot for sig items is getting too small and is starting to look like a small pile instead of a display, so we’ll have to work on that some time.
01/27/2009 at 9:24 pm #1901211Somewhat. We know where the GPSr units are. Ditto the hand me down Palm. We grab other items we think we might need, and trade things in and out, like no letterbox stuff if I won’t be finding those. No EarthCache kit if I won’t be finding those.
Contrary to popular opinion, we do NOT have phone notification, nor do we cache with internet on the road. We *sometimes* remember to turn the cell phone on. Sometimes.
There’s the whole other issue of the harder terrain gear we may need to do the caches we favor. Since that gear is not just for caching, well, it falls where it’s stored. Snowshoes. Kayaks, canoes. Ropes. TNt.
Just kidding about the TNT. Though Trekkin’ does shoot blackpowder, so I suppose it could be arranged! 🙄
01/27/2009 at 10:06 pm #1901212My junk is scattered around in a few spots. I have a backpack, some nooks and crannies in my bedroom closet and the center console of my truck loaded with cache containers, flashlights, printed cache pages covered in scribbled notes, travel bugs, etc. my organization technique is efficient. Ask me where something “was” and I might be able to tell you….
01/27/2009 at 10:11 pm #1901213Just so nobody gets any bright ideas, I don’t keep any of my stuff in the house. I keep it all in a locker in the middle of the local police department.
01/27/2009 at 10:13 pm #1901214Most of our “stuff” stays in the geomobile, but the GPS comes in the house. We have 2 different bags with geostuff in them. There is room in the trunk for most of it, and the swag bag rides in the back seat. You never know when you might see a spot for placing a cache!
01/27/2009 at 11:09 pm #1901215My stuff is EVERYWHERE: car, basement, bedroom, living room, other car, garage, rec room….I lose track then need to get more stuff…that must be why I have three GPS units…
01/28/2009 at 12:47 am #1901216Don’t tell my wife about this forum. If she reads some of these posts I’ll be spending so much time cleaning I won’t have any time for geocaching.
01/28/2009 at 12:55 am #1901217Mister Greenthumb, Thanks for giving me a big laugh. We figure we can organize when we’re too feeble to go out and play!
01/28/2009 at 7:22 am #1901218I keep my GPS right here next to me at the PC workstation. That way when I get in the mood to lookup more caches, all I have to do is reach over and hook it up to the tower to download caches.
The rest of my stuff is in my caching backpack. I’v got a first aid kit, a couple of multi tools, a swiss army knife, extra pencils and pens, a swag bag, and a few other items as well. The bag sits next to my dresser until I’m ready to hit the trail again.
01/28/2009 at 4:53 pm #1901219I’d say organized, but there are different places for different things.
Both GPS’r’s sit in their car mounts on top of my tool chest. I caching backpack with alll of our gear sits in a chair in the bedroom. My cache making stuff has it’s own bench in my shop in the basement, and my walking sticks are proudly dispalyed in the living and dining room.
01/30/2009 at 8:02 pm #1901220Actually I did not yet “organize” my last two…NO make that last three hobbies… most of the caching “gear” is near the computer… most of the time. And, I can pretty much grab the bag, GPS at a moment’s notice.
01/31/2009 at 1:03 am #1901221I’m terribly disorganized. I often have to solve puzzles multiple times because I lose my solutions if I take too long to go find the cache. If I don’t complete an entire multi in one day, I’ll have to re-do the whole thing because I don’t keep track of the waypoints I already visited. My “stuff” is scattered in various closets and drawers. I keep meaning to organize it all into one folder/box, but there’s always something better to do (go cache!).
The only things I can ever find for sure are my GPSr and a pen. Everything else is optional. [:D]
