We aren’t every day cachers and maybe get out once or twice a week during three seasons of the year and even less in times like these. However, we (I) like to stay active in geocaching by working on puzzles, thinking up new cache ideas, and caching vicariously through “log surfing” on the Recent Logs page or checking in our zip code area (not much action right now) or looking back at some of the caches we’ve already found to see what’s going on with those.

What do you do to keep in touch with the sport when you’re not out in the field hunting the ammos, nanos, and micros?

        – Planning the next event.
        – Getting permission and submitting the EarthCaches I did the leg work for last Summer & Fall.
        – Getting caught up on logs.

        Solving puzzles,
Finding puzzles (especially because they tend to be more winter friendly), and
Coming up with new puzzle ideas.

And many spend enormous amounts of time in these forums keeping up on the sport through the adventures, ideas, revelations, and opinions of others who do have or take the time. There is enough digression to keep some of us who do get out into the field a bit and work full time to barely scratch the surface and try to keep up with that dimension. It seems puzzle solving does get a lot of winter attention, along with planning new cache ideas, contemplating personal goals, and one of my favorites, learning about many new and interesting caches and places to visit when there is the opportunity. More than I can possibly get to until I, too, retire. It seems to be a vast smorgasboard of possibilities.

We go out with our snowshoes and hunt nanos, plastic or ammo cans in the snow!

If it’s *really* nasty, well, we do have other interests and we just enjoy those. We kind of planned that we’d back off a bit this winter from the insanity we pursued last winter and get back to some of our older interests a bit. We’ve been somewhat successful. Kind of. Sort of.

I do NOT use those down days for housework. Housework (if it gets done at all) is for after work. Weekends are for fun!

OK, find a meeting room, and pick a date. We will work something out.

This year, teaching myself how to use a little HTML to spice up my cache pages. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the tutorial in the tech talk forum!!! It was very useful to a tech delinquent like myself. I’ve finally gotten around to adding the WGA logo and link (even though it’s the old logo) to my cache pages.

Otherwise, staying in tune with the WGA forums has increased during these Winter months and my list of prospective new cache locations has increased. Even though Winter is perhaps my favorite time of year to geocache, weather and temps have been a little difficult this winter so actually getting out there and finding a few is definitely down for us.
