Yes, but the problem is that it 80% of the logs on those caches are coming from Germany. Obviously he needs to add some sort of requirement that is not internet searchable. Maybe you could contact him and suggest that he adopt these caches to you (since I have already sent him a nastygram, maybe he will be amenable.)

GS won’t allow adoptions of virts anymore, will they?

That’s what I thought as well..

    –from GC knowledge base–

Grandfathered cache types cannot be transferred to a new owner. Neither the adoption tool on the website nor Groundspeak will be able to make the transfer for Virtual, Webcam or Locationless caches. Archived caches cannot be transferred, either.

This must have occured after Lil’ Otter put all of hers up for adoption, cause we adopted three of her virts. One of which has had to have logs deleted regularly for the reason stated in the OP. For some reason, another seems to have a lot of logs from folks who just don’t seem to know how a virtual works and we have to contact them about the required response. Tourist area, we’re guessing many new cachers hit it.

Hey that’s right……. Lil’ Otter adopted out many virtuals.

the article date was May 2006. Has it been that long????(don’t think so 😕 )

Think she did a lot of her adoptions in summer of 2007, right before we got into geocaching, but I’d have to check. Don’t know about the virtuals.

I adopted mine (virtual) from her on August 8, 2007.

The rule was posted back in 2006, but they didn’t get around to blocking it on the website for quite a while. I’m not even sure it is blocked now. The problem is that absentee owners aren’t going to process the adoption anyway.

I will say that original idea of waymarking was to replace virtuals and locationless (creating a waymark is like a locationless, visiting one is like a virtual). As waymarking hasn’t really taken off as planned, virtuals were never moved over.

Double post (my system got stuck for a minute.)

The purist would require a signature in the log book in order to claim the find on the Internet.

I’ve had dozens of similar logs, where someone has been geocaching as a team, or with friends, and then later creates their own account and “back logs” their previous group finds. In this case, their name may, or may not appear in the log book.

I personally don’t care if someone wants to fake the find to increase their find “score”. If someone needs a high number behind their name to increase their self worth, so be it.

What I’ve seen more often is people logging the actual paper log, and not logging it on the internet. We don’t see a rule that requires you to log it on the internet in order to log it on paper. Ironic.

It’s been a while since any posts in this thread, but I discovered what appears to be armchair logger today. I was working on the new “cross country” puzzle in Little Chute and one of the cachers that contacted me apparently is an armchair logger. The user ID is “XXXXXXXX” and I just happened to look at his profile and saw he logged a virtual stateside just a few days ago. Then I looked and found a number of stateside virtuals being found by him, but nothing other than virtuals and they’re scattered across the country.

Had I known this prior to our “partnership” I never would have partnered with them, but it certainly irritates me.

It looks like that Virt GC7A29 has had several armchair logs recently. Looks like it made a free logging list somewhere.

Well I can certainly understand. What could possibly be more fun than writing a valueless electronic log for a nonexistent container in a place you never visited?

Conversing about writing a valueless electronic log for a nonexistent container in a place someone has never visited?
