Unfortunately, our schedule won’t allow for us to attend the GeoCampout

Would any of the MadCity Cachers (and of course any other cheeseheads and bear fans from around the area are always welcome) be interested in maybe doing ANOTHER campout later in the summer? maybe in some other County or State park in So. WI?

I don’t want to take away from the Geocampout, or step on toes, but just wondering if there are any others who would be interested in another social event as we discussed at the Madcity Cachers meeting.

    Thanks!

I’d be interested, since we aren’t able to go to the campout either.. I’d hope for one closer to south/southeast WI, since it’d be a long way up north to the area of the other campout.

Go for it. Last year the gang from the Racine Kenosha area had an event at Bong recreation area. That could have very well been a campout. A nice group attended and we all had a great time.

One downer to events is that in the course of having a cache archived, I’ve been notified that temporary event caches are not being approved. It seems like the geocaching.com rules have taken a strange turn.

Whoa! There was some mis-communications there. There is no rule against temporary event caches, they are being approved all the time.

There is indeed a ban on temporary caches, but not on temporary cache events. Temporary caches related to events, such as all the caches at this weekend’s geo-campout, must be logged on the event cache page, which is a practice WGA has done at all of their events. Temporary caches for events simply can not each have their own cache page.

Take this weekend’s campout for example. I think we can all agree it would be in poor form to sumbit 27+ caches to geocaching.com, just to archive all of them come next Monday.

Instead, one cache is submitted, the event itself, then WGA hands out the co-ordinates for the temp caches at the event, and after the event everyone logs their finds on the event page.

I figured that would bring out some discussion. It seems like different people interpret the ever changing rules at geocaching.com differently. I just got a brief lecture about why a microcache that I recently submitted is not according to the new rules. In the message was a quote from and a link to the rules page. From what I read, temporary event caches are no longer approved. Neither are, and I can think of no better term to relay the meaning, spam caches. To quote the rules page, “why place two when one will do?” It seems to me that much of what we’ve enjoyed doing in the past is put in jeopardy, depending on who is approving the caches for the day.

We’d be interested!! We were only able to stay for a portion of the High Cliff outing. Emergency at home!! What a great time!!

The “guilty” party feels they now OWE use more babysitting time! So, we’re up for it… Keep us posted as things progress..

Would you please post here the quote that lead you to believe that temporary event caches are no longer allowed? I can guarentee you that not a single one of the admins has ever believed, nor operated from that understanding.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, just look at the event calendar and you will see new events being approved everyday. By posting the quote that lead you to draw that conclusion, perhaps I can get an adjustment to the wording.

BTW, here in Wisconsin, you don’t need to worry about getting different interpretations from different admins. With the extremely rare exception, we have only one admin reviewing our caches
