I was going to suggest that perhaps we could have these souvenirs made into patches or pins. Then we could wear them on sashes with our best geocaching outfits to all our important caching get togethers.
But I Won’t. π

08/03/2013 at 3:03 am #1971295Happened to drive right by a cache today but didn’t go for it. Now I don’t have the pressure to continue with any streak.
We’ll probably still get enough souvenirs to wear as patches on our sashes at geo-events. π

08/03/2013 at 3:54 am #1971297I like the guy in Iowa who is holding an event every day of the month. See GC4FZ94 for reference.

08/03/2013 at 1:08 pm #1971300I have a feeling I’ll be trying for all 31 souveniers. I wonder why they’re doing it this month. Is August the slowest month for finds? I would think winter would be.

08/03/2013 at 5:09 pm #1971301August has always been my biggest month for finding caches. Partly due to Cache Bash, but also due to trying to cram as much in as possible before September.

08/03/2013 at 10:38 pm #1971304I think that souvenirs should be awarded for caching in states and countires, and grabbing a cache on a special date or day, like it was before.
I don’t think that picking a ramdom month to award souvenirs adds anything to the activity. Maybe one souvenir should be awarded for completing the entire month.
We won’t go out purposely for a souvenir this month, except for international geocaching day on the 17th, but we will inadvertently collect a couple because we will be out caching on a few different days anyway.
I’m with code junkie, it dilutes the significance of souvenirs (assuming you are someone who believes they have significance in the first place).
This discussion is all moot anyway, the caching gods have issued an edict from on high and we minions must abide!
08/04/2013 at 1:32 am #1971305I guess we’re going to give it a try. We’ve been in a bit of a caching lull (with some notable exceptions), so this might be just the thing to break us out of our shell. Our longest streaks have always been just the long week of a family vacation, so this should be fun. A bit of planning too, as there aren’t really enough caches in Stevens Point to sustain a streak.
If they are going to begin to expand upon souvenirs I look forward to seeing what happens. It would be nice to see it expand so that everyone can have fun with it, not just inveterate travelers. I guess I have spent less than five minutes looking at our souvenirs since their inception, so maybe this will move the needle.
As for making souvenirs meaningless, weren’t they before π ? I checked our souvenir count to qualify for some challenge caches over by Eau Claire, and wouldn’t it be nice if some of the locals could log those by doing some dedicated caching instead of having to spend thousands of dollars to add to their states and countries?
08/04/2013 at 4:11 am #1971306I agree with ^
It’s a fun way to get souvenirs with out spending a lot on travel.
My bike took me to my hot air balloon tonight!
