With an average of 10,000 Baby Boomers heading into retirement each day for the next 20 years, how will this influence what you do as a WGA Board member?

guess I’m gonna have to keep working to fund the Social Security system for them.

We defiantly should keep the education and awareness of geocaching out in the community. Not only for those soon to be retired but for anyone who could take an interest in geocaching. The WGA will only continue to grow in the years to come that’s for sure.

Are you calling yourself old Tom? 🙂 I really do not think it will change what I do if I am elected as board member.

I don’t see this influencing me at all. It might increase membership, but our job would remain the same no matter who plays the game.

The greatest thing I have seen as baby boomers move into retirement and pre-retirement has been an increase in program participation at Parks & Recreation. They as a generation are striving to be more healthy, active and connected. Baby Boomers are also spending more time with grandchildren than previous generations.

The greatest impact I can see this having on the WGA would be ..

at our events, continuing the kid friendly hides and activities which allows parents or grandparents to participate with their children or grandchildren.

at our events, bringing in the educational piece. Baby boomers are striving to keep up with the technology and are asking for it.

As to how will this influence me, I think it already has .. it has made me more aware of the participants at our events .. at the Waukesha Janboree yesterday I specifically spoke to different people to check in on my answer before I posted it here.

Hm, I tend to work with the opposite end of the age spectrum since I am a preschool teacher. I guess that I would just encourage people to put the attributes on their geocache hides so that people can choose the kinds of caches that they want to go look for appropriately. Attributes can quickly help people that might have a hard time with a certain terrain due to physical limitations or maybe they just have young kids along with them. But I think that the baby boomers that are drawn to geocaching are also the types of people that have spent their life in the great outdoors and have a good knowledge of local parks and how to explore and enjoy them.
