Guess you will have to ask him… we have not actually watched that show. My Dad calls sometimes when it is on and says we should watch it… but neither of us are much for watching TV.
TE08/31/2009 at 11:59 am #1912894I am a cook in an elementary school and I LOVE it!!! What other job can you have that makes you feel like you are doing something great each and everyday for all kinds of children??? I’m sure teachers feel the same way. I have been doing it for 11 years now and look forward to almost every day. Heading back this fall is a little tougher than usual, summer went WAY TO FAST, and I agree with Timberline Echoes, not looking forward to 6 months of winter…that nasty 6 letter word!
08/31/2009 at 1:47 pm #1912895Mr. S always had a fondness for the lunch ladies at his school when he was teaching. They took good care of him, and it shows! 😉
As for winter, six months from tomorrow is March 1. Snow should be melting, robins returning, balmy breezes every so often . . .
09/01/2009 at 1:45 pm #1912896Had an enjoyable time watching the neighbor kids go off for their first days in grades 5, 7, and 9. Sullen, half-asleep teens and tweens, a far cry from their eager faces a few years ago. Short sleeves and no jacket on one. Brr-rrrrr, but she made a fashion statement. 😉
How did your day go if this was the first day of school for you and your family?
09/01/2009 at 2:34 pm #1912897I enjoyed watching parents drop off their kids for school today, and it doesn’t start until tomorrow.
09/01/2009 at 2:48 pm #1912898I retired 3 years ago from teaching…had 36 years in. But I still go in to help my wife put up bulletin boards, etc….hey, c’mon…somebody has to support me 😉 But you’ll have to excuse me now…my boat and I have a date with some fish 😀
Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
09/02/2009 at 5:39 pm #1912899My son left me in utter awe of him yesterday. As I drove around to drop him off at school, I was the one who was nervous!! Here were nearly 700 kids congregating in their little group of friends while for the bell to ring and I was dumping my son into the fray without him really knowing anyone. (He is in a new school district this year).
Well, he got out of the car, grabbed his backpack and with a big smile on his face said good-bye to me and headed off into the fray like he’s been with these kids all his life! If he was nervous or scared, he never even gave a hint of it. For me, I was so amazed and in awe to see my 11 year old son jump right in like that.
Even if he is annoying, bratty, and lacks manners most times, the way he handled himself with this situation, makes me think that maybe, I’m doing something right raising him!
09/04/2009 at 4:52 am #1912900I retired in 2002, after teaching for 33 years. It was a rewarding and wonderful career for me. I enjoyed it up until the very last day, but when I was done I was really done. No plans to sub for me!
I have extremely fond memories, and with the help of Facebook I have been able to reconnect with many many former students. I have found out where life has taken them, and get to watch their families grow up. They have shared lots of great memories with me of days they spend my class.
I wish all teachers a fantastic academic year. I KNOW how very hard you work! Give yourself a pat on the back, because there is not always someone else out there who truly understands just how much you give to your students and your community. You make a difference…………never forget that.09/04/2009 at 3:01 pm #1912901Now a 3 day weekend…………time to catch your breath after all that preparation.
09/04/2009 at 5:29 pm #1912902Grades 2 and 5. Both love school and do well. Major challenge is getting them through another year of public school with some semblance of our traditional family values intact. 😯
Bus was supposed to pick them up at 7:02. First day it got here at 6:45. Usually the run-down-the-driveway-with-shoes-half-untied-one-arm-in-coat-dragging-backpack doesn’t happen until the third or fourth day of school.
On the Left Side of the Road...09/08/2009 at 1:08 am #1912903Chuckle…so I’m teaching my 4th class of the day and one of my 8th grade boys says, “Mrs. J-M, you have one of those “sticky” things stuck on your shirt in the back.” So I’m thinking someone stuck a post it note on my back as a joke. This nice boy removes it from my back and shows it to me and it’s a burr. Tami
My sister and I were out in the Kettle Moraine area yesterday marking coords for her 6th grade camp outing coming up and it must have stuck to my car seat and then hitched a ride into school with me. -
