An important thing about is geocaching, is what you PLACE in geocaches that you find.
Do NOT put in any of these items, and if you find them in a cache take the out:
– Lighters
– Matches
– Fireworks, Explosives
– Knifes (or similar sharp things)
– Food
– Drugs, AlcoholI found a SINGLE cache this weekend in Sheboygan that had in it: 2 packs of matches, 1 lighter, a utility knife and 2 fortune cookies. Another cacher told me this weekend he had just found firecrackers in another cache.
You must remember that kids find caches (either as little geocachers or accidentially), so only place items that would be safe around a 5 year old. And don’t place food, some animal will sooner or later find it and try to get to it.
Also don’t put anything liquid in a cache that will freeze, then leak when it warms up again.

* * * * * * * * * *I’ve also been known to help “clean-out” the cache containers…Stuff that is obviously broken, moldy, falling apart, I remove from the cache. I’ve been carrying extra baggies with me and will use them as needed as well. Tami
Also……candles do NOT do well in caches. In the summer months the intense heat melts the wax and makes a mess of everything inside the cache container.
ok, that means everybody better go out to candles in the wind and trade the candles out of it. (i’m hoping there aren’t a lot of them left)
i was looking for some manly trade items one time and thought those utility knives would be great. but i was wrong.
