We’ve found a few books of matches and a few lighters, all of which we’ve pulled (and traded something). Food occasionally, usually candy. One knife/keychain. Trekkin’ liked that one! Oh yeah, and that joint last winter! 😯 That one hit the ice, I’m sure some carp in Lake Neshonoc appreciated it.

But so far, no beer. It is interesting that the cachers don’t just pull it for you, if they realized it doesn’t belong there.

Once I found a live .38 shell. I don’t own a .38, so I wasn’t about to remove the contraband and have live ammunition just lying around. I noted the situation on the e-log, and cachers with disposal means took care of it.

πŸ˜† That just reminded me…..yesterday while geocaching in the rain, I found two full unopened beers. One was a miller lite and the other was a Steel Reserve 211. Found them in two different parks. It pays to CITO. I usually bring them home for Professor. Just got them out of my car and into my fridge.

At an event a few years back I found a full 6-pack in some bushes (right next to a temp. cache) and took them. Tami

Earth Angel, you have found more beer than that. On several of our trips, while picking up cans along the trail, she found a can here and there.

I’ve pulled pocket knives, granola bars, moldy dog treats, matches, and jelly beans but no beer, booze, or ammo.

I am however hoping to have the opportunity to remove a couple of Green Bay Packer season tickets πŸ˜€

I really don’t think beer belongs in a cache, but I wouldn’t have any problems finding a cold one while out caching on occasion.. πŸ™‚

One mentionable- most beers will not break open and leak if frozen. TS & Laurie taught us this trick before Rock Island a couple of years ago- put your beer in the freezer for a couple of days before camping- it works better than ice in the cooler and tastes just fine after it thaws.

I’ve found (and put to good use) plenty of unauthorized swag. Knives, fireworks, lighters…. I even got a good Cuban cigar out of a cache once.

I don’t worry too much about it- I really don’t think there are many minors out there caching alone. If they are old enough to cache on their own, they must also be old enough to make their own decisions.
If you still check your kid’s trick-or-treat candy, you should be doing the same with their cache swag.

Again, I don’t support inappropriate swag, but I don’t see any reason people need to be overly concerned either- there are plenty of worse things right here on the internet….

I’m sure the beer was nice and cool. When we found Ruben’s it was hotter that hot out and humid to boot. We drank what little water we had on our approach. πŸ™ We would of LOVED to have come across a BEER at the cave πŸ˜† on that day πŸ˜† !! We would of split it even if it was a ‘lite’ beer. The canoers must be using the cave as a ‘frig in the summer time. I like the idea though!

I drive truck and we haul alot of beer and trust me frozen beer cuts the shelf life of it down to a couple of days if your lucky and any beer in any container will freeze solid and break the container at minus 20 degrees. It is a constant battle for us to pick it up and deliver it without it freezing in the winter months.

Good to know… my freezer averages 0 to -5 deg. Soda definitely splits a can but never yet a beer. For camping, shelf life is not an issue – we’ve never kept the beer around for more that a couple of days.

I remember finding “snake den” cache in the early days of geocaching. The owner put a shot glass and some unknown liquid in the cache. I guess you were supposed to celebrate the find ???

    I don’t remember driving home πŸ˜†
