Here are a few benchmarking links that I had book marked and that I use often.
I hope that they can answer some of your questions and help you out.http://www.unm.edu/~creelbm/pages/benchmarks.html
This site has some great pictures of benchmarks. It also has an explanation of various benchmarks types. It also has a short history of benchmarks in the US and other countries.http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/
This web page is from the US Department of Commerce. Which over sees the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and also the National Geodetic Survey.http://benchmarks.scaredycatfilms.com/index.html
One of the nice features of this site is the benchmarking index site. Which lists all 50 states. And does a nice job of showing where benchmarks are in your area. It also has a very nice FAQ page.http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=113335&st=0&p=1811663&#entry1811663
This link will take you to the Ground Speak forums site on benchmarking. And can be very informative.http://www.waymarking.com/cat/details.aspx?f=1&guid=59293289-ceab-4e0c-87ab-da422b1e6232
Waymarking has a benchmarking group that you can post you recoveries to.12/28/2008 at 2:07 pm #1899352http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_county.prl
NGS datasheets for counties. This is the page you will need if you wish to download all the benchmarks for any particular county. THis is a ZIP file and will require the next link to open it to put it into GSAK.http://parkrrrr.com/
The BMGPX program needed to take the NGS download and covert it to GPX file for GSAK.http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=113335
The INFO source on just about everything benchmarking from those who take this very seriously. A GREAT tutorial on getting started – from not finding a disk, to tools needed, to programs to what does that mean??http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/showdoc.prl?Doc=dsdata.txt
This page taken from the NGS site explains everything on the datasheet from wht a PID means to geoid height etc. [/url]06/23/2010 at 8:43 pm #1899353http://surveying.wb.psu.edu/sur351/chapter7/c7.htm
A very educational site on surveying from the Penn State College of Engineering.
Includes information on benchmarks. -
