If geocaching is your go-to leisure activity, that’s okay, but I’m guessing people have other interests they pursue when they have the time, too. So just to get to know each of you a little better, tell us what those interests are.
01/22/2015 at 9:55 am #2033952This past year, the other things I have pursued during leisure time, as in time away from paid employment, have been scrapbooking, wine tasting and driving. I have enjoyed taking classes at our local Scrapbook Store, which happens to be a small business – oh wait, I hosted a geocaching event there last year with the owner. I have a group of friends, now known as the Friday Crop Club, that gets together to work on projects so there is a huge socialization factor going on there – oh wait, a majority are geocachers. I started wine tasting after a friend invited me to celebrate her birthday doing so – oh wait, she is a geocacher too. I do driving for a local dog rescue as their transport driver to bring dogs here from shelters in Georgia – since I have done a lot of driving for geocaching, it was a good fit. Oh, I do stop for at least 1 geocache along the way.
I have also enjoyed canoeing, small boat sailing, crafts, camping, hiking, volunteering for the Girl Scouts and volunteering for the American Red Cross Health & Safety classes.
01/22/2015 at 10:51 am #2033957First of all, I am very involved with church activities; conducting the children’s choir, teaching Sunday School, planning Vacation Bible School, taking the kids on field trips, church work days, etc. I also spend quite a lot of time supporting my children in their various activities; sports like basketball and soccer, swimming, archery, cake decorating, 4H, helping out regularly at their school, and just taking them out into the world to explore. Our family is very close and we do a lot together so we’re always taking road trips, hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing, visiting museums or shows and concerts. Yes, several of those things also involve picking up a few geocaches but this game does tend to permeate your life a bit as it can be done while enjoying other things other than the numbers. I also enjoy reading a variety of books and playing strategy board games with friends and family. I like to sew, especially quilting, and do other crafts like woodburning and scrapbooking. My family has been in 4H for years and so I’m often helping out our club with various activities but I also started a new Geocaching project for the county. I could probably go on and on because I like to try a variety of things but these are the big ones.

01/22/2015 at 12:32 pm #2033984My time-fillers outside of work, WGA matters and geocaching (they are different) include working towards World Peace, deciding which type of pie I prefer (hands down it always comes back Pecan Pie) and evaluating the merits of puppies versus kittens.
My youngest child just graduated and is now 19. She really only need me and my wife for the bank account. I spent 10 yrs as a church youth group leader and about 15 years off and on as a soccer coach for my kids. Now they are grown up and leading their own lives.Currently, my wife Keri and I are finding ourselves drawn back into Off-Roading, Wheelin’ or Jeepin’. No matter what it is called, it is all the same and we have just joined a couple of Off Road clubs. If spent a fair amount of time in the last year modifying my Jeep for fun and functionality.
We are in a transition time in our lives and looking for what is next. We now get to live for ourselves and Isabelle the Adventure Pup instead of the kids. And hope a lot of traveling happens and that then also leads back into caching.Following the signals from space.
01/22/2015 at 1:35 pm #2033993I will be honest my time involves a lot of school work and working on lessons and activities for my preschool classroom. The odd thing is, I rather enjoy doing those two activities that it doesn’t really feel like a ‘job’. I suppose that would be boring though if that’s all I did in my spare time, lucky for me it’s not.
I also enjoy thrift shopping, doing many DIY projects, painting, online gaming, portrait and wedding photography, and of course volunteering in the local elementary schools around Sheboygan County. Recently I have been attempting scrapbooking with a couple friends I have met through geocaching.
And every so often I take up the hobby of sleeping.
01/22/2015 at 7:32 pm #2034022I like to go hiking and exploring new areas which does usually turn into geocaching because then I will hide one there if I find something new. I always have to see what is around the next bend in a river or over the next hill.
I go fishing, hunting and snowshoeing. I made a 2 mile loop behind my house that I go around between 3 to 5 times a night. Last year I had a moonlit snowshoeing hot chocolate event and took a group around the loop. GC4ZMBW
I also listen to about 6-7 hours of podcast each week. TWIT This Week in Tech and Windows Weekly. Very good programs. http://www.twit.tv

01/25/2015 at 10:00 am #2034193Spending time with our children and grandchildren is right up there at the top of the list for me. Many of you have seen us at an event with a grandchild along for the fun. Besides caching we spend quite a bit of time camping. We rent a sesonal campsite and spend the majority of the weekends there. We even host an annual event, Meet Me At The Lake, at the campgrounds. We enjoy kayaking and boating. We used to spend a lot of time fishing but not so much anymore but I’m sure one day we will wander back towards it. We also spend a lot of time off road on the 4 wheeler trails in our RZR4. Summer time is just to short to do it all as much as we like. Winter time finds us mostly geocaching and snowshoeing. We also like to drive randomly around the back roads finding awesome scenery.
