Penninsula State Park in Door County is the biggest and busiest in the state, very tough to get reservations there. It is a good one.

Suprised nobody mentioned High Cliff State Park. Very nice, loaded with caches, great camping area in a mature forest on the top of the limestone cliffs. A must do cache is Old Man | All Strung Out, it will take some time and climbing.

Slightly off topic. Kat, are you guys doing the getaway again this year?

We won’t be there again this year. Duck has a Scouting thing in the U.P. that weekend.

Four stops for your trip to Madeline Island.

Ashland Mural Walk (GC3F1MT) Fun multi in downtown Ashland which brings you to view several of the cities murals to collect the answer.

NGLVC TB Hotel (GCQ1VD) Great views, beautiful facility. TB Hotel, on your way to the Island.

JFK Twineman (GC1FCKR) Just check it out on the GC site. Enough said.

Big Bens Gyros on the Highway just outside of Ashland. Like gyros? stop.

Many more caches but these are three special ones.

It’s a good drive from my cottage, but I make the trip at least three times a summer. Mostly for the gyros… I took Mrs. Northwoods there this fall so I think the stops will increase when she goes with.

If you want to consider camping on Rock or Washington Island, just look for me at the WGA Bonfire if you want more information.

    There’s an App for that!

As an aside, we’ve found this app very useful when traveling within WI. 🙂 🙂

Seriously….the best of the state parks are Devil’s Lake, Mirror Lake (very often overlooked) and Governor Dodge…oh and Mill Bluff also…and I guess Perrot and Merrick are sweet also…..Can you tell I like the hills? However, we have such amazing treasures in our Wisconsin State Park so you really cannot go wrong. I love the first three mentioned because I spent a lot of time there growing up. Ice fishing with my grandfather at Governor Dodge – such wonderful memories….and the hiking at Devil’s Lake is beyond amazing….Mirror Lake is just a sweet park. Mill Bluff has really cool rock formations and the views from Perrot and Merrick are incredible.

The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA board.

Did we forget Brunet State Island in Cornell? This was were we held the 2011 fall picnic. It’s definitely one to consider!

So this isn’t a state park but I really liked the Spearhead Point campground in the Mondeaux Flowage. It is in a part of the Chequamegon National Forest, but then I like the National Parks System.

I really like Governor Dodge, mainly because it is quieter than some of the other parks (Devil’s Lake comes to mind). In that same neck of the woods, Blue Mound also offers some good views of the land both to the East and west. I also like the views from Wyalusing,
