Hello, my name is Bethany Fredericks, aka BFredericks88, and I am honored to have been nominated for a position on the WGA Board of Directors.

I live in Watertown and work as a high school English teacher.  I’ve lived in Watertown for five years now and just moved into my first house!

I started geocaching in 2014 when I was working and living in Platteville.  I had a friend who would post his geocaching escapades on Facebook and it always intrigued me.  On a whim, I downloaded the app and made my way to a nearby green dot with nothing on me but my iPhone and a pen. My first cache was a camo-covered peanut butter jar just a half mile from my apartment.  Having enjoyed the hobby so far, I walked over to the university to a cache under a bridge.  It was here that I picked up my first tick and I was ready to walk away from caching forever!  I’m so glad I didn’t.

Ever since moving to Watertown, caching has become a bigger part of my life.  I’ve started to understand the ‘inner workings’ of the hobbies.  After attending my first events and meeting more cachers, my eyes have been opened to more and more of what makes geocaching as wonderful a hobby as it is.  As great as a solo cache mission can be, meeting and connecting with other cachers is really where I find fulfillment. I hope that as a member of the board, I can continue to encourage that human connection to the game. I’ve enjoyed meeting some of you at the Cache Ba$h, the CLUE event, GIFF, and JanBoree and hope to continue to meet more of you!  I have truly appreciated people who have helped me expand my understanding of geocaching and would love to pass that on to other new cachers as well.

In addition to teaching and caching, I am a coach.  I coach high school cross country and middle school track.  My spare time is spent running, watching the Packers, traveling, and reading.

If elected to the board, I hope to work to continue to improve the game in Wisconsin.  I think a younger perspective would be valuable in continuing to build relationships with others involved in the game.

I am humbled to be nominated and I would love the opportunity to serve.  Please reach out if you have any questions!

The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA Board of Directors
