I was stopped by the constables once in Maryland. Someone reported me because I parked legally on their side street and entered the wooded county park on the legal path to go for a walk. At least they were more annoyed with the person making the call and didn’t find a reason to cuff me, plus, they had “sort of” heard about geocaching. It was a frightening situation, though, to be confronted by two officers!
At least the potential for police encounters like this keep the felons out of the sport. Plus, if you gotta tell the wife you were cuffed and read, this is the best possible scenario 😉
This didn’t happen while geocaching but when 9/11 happened I was stopped at gunpoint. They thought I was a terrorist and had a hostage. My sister and I had just returned from buying a lawnmower! Still it is pretty freaky to have guns pointed at you. It is something I don’t think you will ever forget.
