Evidently Google has made a change to Google Maps. I’m not referring to the version that launches from within geocaching.com, but the version you get by default if you go straight to Google Maps.
You now get the familiar red teardrop at the closest street coordinate, but not the green arrow at the exact pinpointed location. I entered the coordinates for a location about 200 feet away from the road, and it would only show me the road location. I switched to Bing Maps to see the exact location. However, you can switch back to the old Google “Classic” map by clicking on the “classic” link on the maps page. It appears you have to choose one or the other. After selecting the “classic” Google Maps, it no longer gives me the option of the new version.
The advantage I see with the new version is that wherever you click on the map, it gives you a thumbnail to click on with a street view of that location. Nice, but not at the expense of offroad accuracy.
There is a place in your registry where you can reset it back to “non-classic”. Since I have no intention of switching back (!), I didn’t save the link, but I’m sure you can Google it.
