Looking for bike trails (in Wisconsin) that are also good caching areas. Any suggestions?

I have yet to ride it but if you want to cache.
09/25/2009 at 1:07 am #1914546The Woodville trail near Baldwin.
Great fun on this one….and about 50 caches.09/25/2009 at 2:12 am #1914547Green Circle Trail in Stevens Point….a good 30 along the way, including a 21 stage multi.
09/25/2009 at 2:51 am #1914548We have biked and cached many, many of the Wisconsin bikes trails.
By far the BEST trail with the BEST caches (fun, creative, etc) is the Gandy Dancer Bike Trail.
Just so much fun!

Depends on what you want. Numbers = Wildwood. Variety = Green Circle. Scenic beauty = Chippewa River trail. Gandy Dancer = creative hides and northwoods solitude.
The Wildwood trail near Woodville has lots of easy caches, close to the trail so you will get a lot of finds. It is not a particularly scenic trail: essentially Wisconsin farmland, and lots of it. Best to park at one end and cache to the other end, as they are real close together.
The Green Circle in Stevens Point is 30 miles long, so longer distances from cache to cache, but it has a lot of interesting variety, and is quite scenic in places, and urban in others. Parts of it follow the Wisconsin River, and parts go out into wooded areas east of Point. Unlike the Wildwood trail, you will probably want to move the car several times.
The Chippewa River Trail between Eau Claire and Durand is my favorite, but I am admittedly biased, since I have placed about 50 caches or so along it. It would be tough to get them all in one day, as many are not right on the trail, like the Wildwood trail. The Chippewa River Trail follows the Chippewa River and is exceptionally scenic.
The Gandy Dancer has a lot of real well done and unique hides right along the trail, and is a very scenic trail, and offers a feeling of northwoods solitude.

09/25/2009 at 2:41 pm #1914550Wiouwash Trail (bookmarked with 31 active caches – may not be complete bookmark) (Oshkosh-Appleton)
Friendship Trail (bookmarked with 15 active caches – may not be complete bookmark) Neenah/Menasha – Winchester
these trails intersect each other also.

YA I got that with Zuma’s post…I don’t recall if you have a Mtn. bike or not? If so this is a great path for it…(even a multi-track bike would be OK). It is crushed limestone so I wouldn’t take your road bike on it. The last mile in particular has a REALLY rough segment. Here’s a pic of one of the water crossings I traversed last time I was out there. There is only pavement in a couple of spots (like this one).
09/25/2009 at 5:53 pm #1914553Hey, many thanks for all these great suggestions! This will definitely give us some new spots to try. 😀
09/25/2009 at 7:14 pm #1914554A little closer to home is the Bugline. Menomonee Falls, Sussex, Merton areas.
West Bend has one, though I forget the name.09/25/2009 at 9:39 pm #1914555And the Wild Goose Trail, from Fond du Lac south to Clyman in Dodge County.
Also the Plank Road Trail from Sheboygan, west to Greenbush.09/25/2009 at 10:28 pm #1914556Grinding a bit of an axe here…one trail which has just a couple of geocaches is one of the longest bike trails in the state, the Glacial Drumlin Trail from Waukesha to Madison. I’d have placed some along that trail myself but you need a trail pass ($) to use a bike on it…sorry, but there is no way I’m paying to ride my bike on a rails to trails route.
There is also the Omaha bike trail near I-94 at Camp Douglas.

Also the Plank Road Trail from Sheboygan, west to Greenbush. We just did the Plank Road Trail a few weeks ago and had a good time. It is all asphalt paved. The only problem we had was dodging motor scooters which are also allowed on this trail.
