A pointless observation on this morning when we may not be able to get out because Trekkin’ continues to be sick.

I’ve been a birder my entire life. I finally started keeping track of my North American life list about 5 years ago. Currently I’m sitting at 217 birds. There are over 700 species reported in North America. I bird mostly within my area of the map, have yet to go to exotic birding places like the Rio Grande or Attu in Alaska.

I’ve been a geocacher for not quite a year. If Trekkin’ weren’t sick, we’d probably hit 200 caches this weekend. And we had almost three months last fall when we didn’t go out at all, and the most we’ve ever been able to get in a day is 12 when we went to an event.

Looks like for people who like to count things, geocaching beats birding, LOL.

I know, I should be on that long thread on off topic with this one! Too much time.

I suppose your birding numbers would be higher if you could punch coordinates into your GPSr and be sure that the bird you are looking for would be exactly there! 😉

Oh, I definitely have to agree!

      Birding since 1989 – Life list 370
      Caching since 2003 – 4300!

To make another comparison, how many geocaches would you find if you just went into a random forest and looked around for them?

Yup, depends on the “forest.” I just searched my mom and dad’s zip code with a 15 mile radius (northern Twin Cities) and came up with over 1400 caches! 😯

I know we “win” more caches than the amount of wins we watched when we use to go to the Packer games and usually ended up sitting in crappy weather and spending too much money.

If I would give myself permission to drive over to the east side of the state, I know my Wisconsin list would finally top 200. No good shorebird habitat over here AT all!

I keep thinking—hmmm, I could go to Irishfest School and improve my bodhran skills, go birding in the off hours, but Trekkin’ would not be able to come, so no geocaching. Can only kill two birds with that stone!
