    Hello all
got a question for anyone who can help. a friend of mine asked me to do a little geocache event at a birthday party for her kid. i told her about geocaching and she told the parents of the kids coming and they all are really interested and want to see how its done. so she asked if i could do a little event for them and there friends to help them out and get people interested. my idea was to do traditional cache and a multi-cache all geared towards the kids of course. i was planing on having the traditional cache filled with stickers and the multi one filled with toys. the multi one i was thinking of doing something along the lines of way points giving clues to the final cache. if anyone has any other ideas that might help please let me know. ooh by the way it is on a 40 acre farm so there should be lots of hiding spots and also this is taking place next weekend so much for enough notice 😆 but if anyone can help with ideas that would be great. this would be for the kids and adults FYI.

I did a simple one for my 6 year old last year and it went well. I hide a medium size cache about 150 yards from the house the day before. My kids did not get to see where as well.

Anyhow, Day of the party I got all kids together and told them what was going to happen. Gave the GPS unit to the Bday girl and let her lead the way. Once she got them in the area all started to search. I made sure there was at least one thing per kid in the cache.

I’ve done this as well. Just be sure you don’t make the multi too hard. Really dumb it down. I made the mistake of gearing it towards a geocacher and these were really noobs…

    Ditto what others said, plus:

Make them really easy to find (make them at least partially visible) and don’t make them small (unless it’s a somewhat obvious spot).

Make it so that from one hiding spot you can’t see someone else finding one at another hiding spot, that will likely spoil the fun.

I started “treasure hunts” two years ago and it is the most hotly requested birthday game in our family and among the girl’s friends. I do NOT use a gpsr since I have only one. I divide the kids in teams of 3-4 kids and then gear the clues to their ability levels (ie: the 8yr old gets written clues or a map to decipher, the 6 yr old gets pictures, usually close ups or distance shots so they have to think). Then I hide about 4 stages for each team (we have 5 acres to work with, although I’ve run them successfully on the 1 acre portion). Otherwise, the game runs much like a multi-cache when you use the hints only. Plant the next cache clues in the previous. My first game was when the youngest was 4 and they do get the concept quickly! I apologize for the late posting, but I’ve been busy and haven’t checked this page lately. If you haven’t done it, try it, it’s fun and gets the kids running around and thinking. Linda

I didn’t do this at a party, but I did hide my 9 year old nephews birthday presents at some of the old State of Mind locations the day before his birthday and made him work for them. He couldn’t believe that I had left wrapped up games and things in the woods for him to find. He had a great time finding them. I’m sure what ever you come up with will be a big hit!
