Hello everyone, my name is BJ Lillo. My wife and I cache using her account, beccaday. You may also know me as the grillmaster from various events over the years. Becca and I currently live in Markesan after recently escaping the Silicon Valley. I grew up in Eau Claire and we lived in Waukesha for 12 years previously.

Becca and I have been caching since 2010. Back then, she was a stay at home mom and ran an in-home daycare. Caching gave her some sanity getting outside the house and the opportunity to meet awesome people. At that time, I was a consultant driving all over four states. Fast forward to today, and our roles are somewhat reversed. Since Feb of 2020, I’ve been working from home and need to escape at the end of the day; caching gives us a good opportunity to do that. We also enjoy visiting breweries while we’re out and about.

Professionally, I’ve got over twenty years in IT. I currently work for a Silicon Valley tech company (Okta) out of our home. Outside of caching, I enjoy craft beer (find me on Untappd), golfing, singing, archery, and grilling/smoking food.

From a volunteer perspective, I’ve been involved with many different organizations over the years. I currently serve on a board associated with our church body which provides material assistance to orphans, widows, and seminary students in our foreign missions. I’m a founding lead of the ‘Vets at Okta’ Employee Resource Group, which seeks to help military veterans organizations financially and with volunteer hours from our employees and also to facilitate employment of veterans at Okta. I am a “Social Champion” for the #social-beer Slack group at Okta which involves organizing a quarterly beer-related event for our workforce spread across the country. I also help coach a grade school basketball team for the school Becca teaches at. Previously I have been President of our church in California for almost five years, President of our church in Hales Corners for three years, and a member or chair of pretty much any other board our churches have had going back to when I left the Army at age 22.

I decided to run for the board after encouragement from existing and former board members the last few months. I have thrived in leadership roles in various organizations over the years. I believe that is mainly due to the fact that I can make decisions when there are many competing factors involved and execute once those decisions are made. After a couple of decades helping customers in an ever-changing technological landscape, my least favorite phrase is, “because that’s how we’ve always done it.”

Thanks for the opportunity and I look forward to serving should you fine people see fit to elect me.

Hello everyone. Last week I was unexpectedly elected to a leadership position in my church which will require a significant amount of my time and effort. I don’t believe I can serve in the capacity needed for this role while also give the WGA Board position the attention it deserves. I have requested that I be removed from consideration for the board this election cycle. Best of luck to the remaining candidates and hopefully I’ll see you at future events and on the trails.
