Because the campout is rapidly approaching we are announcing this Board decision immediately rather than waiting for the next email newsletter or Board activity summary. Following the referendum held in April, the Board began to consider eliminating temporary cache logging at WGA events in light of the opinions expressed by members. The delay in getting a decision made was initially due to wrangling over the wording of the motion, and then it took some time for all votes to be cast as some Board members were “on the fence”.

The following motion was considered and passed by the Board:

Whereas, the cache page listing WGA events is owned by the WGA membership, and controlled by the WGA Board of Directors, and that a plurality of those members (83 – 40) do not want the practice of logging temps to continue.

Be it resolved that the following paragraph be included in the event page description of all future events held by the WGA that include the presence of temporary cache hides as part of the event:

“The WGA asks that this event be logged only once. The practice of multiple logging of temp caches is no longer condoned by the WGA or considered to be a good practice by much of the geocaching community.”

    Voting yes (for) this motion:

    Waldmann
    Edwards
    Geoffrey
    Elsenpeter
    Korpal
    Mode

    Voting no (against) this motion:

    Vechinski
    Krug

    No vote:

    Jansen

Note that due to the charged nature of this matter we are locking this forum topic to prevent any further discussion here that might drown out the announcement itself. Board members may unlock this thread and post their rational for voting the way they did if they so desire. Members are welcome to voice their opinion on this decision in other forum topics.
