I’ll do my share of geocaching at the campout, but I’m planning to bring a kayak and a mountain bike to enjoy other aspects the park, too. So bring your canoe/kayak and/or bike if you feel like it.
If you’d like to try out a kayak, let me know because I could be persuaded to bring an extra one along. Mary can’t attend that weekend.
04/27/2007 at 9:11 pm #1873769I’d love to kayak at Hartman, but since my daughter will be with me, I can’t predict if I’ll have the time. If you bring it for others to use, I would like to be considered for a short paddle if the opportunity arises.
Thanks, Ruth.
04/28/2007 at 1:35 am #1873770I’d like to try a kayak. But im curious as to what the capacity plate says?? Maybe i’ll bring our canoe along too!
04/28/2007 at 2:09 am #1873771kayaking is on my things to do before I die list, but I’m sure you’ll have a long line waiting for a go.
And since I’m not planning to die anytime soon….

04/28/2007 at 3:54 am #1873772I was fortunate enough to attend a camp in northern wi when I was in grade school, we got to learn kayak basics(along with wind surfing and water skiing) it was fun but the skirt and I never got along.
05/04/2007 at 3:36 am #1873773I don’t think there will be a long line waiting to test drive a kayak, so any who want to try should be able to fulfill their lifelong dreams. 😀
05/07/2007 at 2:13 am #1873774We are now planning on attending the campout. We’ll be bringing four kayaks and would be happy to join up with anyone else wanting to do some paddling in the area.
05/08/2007 at 3:52 am #1873775I will also bring the canoe it will be good to paddle alittle get ready for a canoe trip at the end of the month
05/09/2007 at 6:51 am #1873776There is also a canoe outfitter located within the park. I ran into the guy who runs it, and the weekend of the campout is there opening weekend.

05/14/2007 at 7:58 pm #1873778would you be willing to teach how to kayak? i always wanted to learn… and i’m very interested in learning. thanks!

LindseySure, I can give some pointers to get you started. Saturday afternoon might be the best time to try this — in case the weather is cool. Right now the forecast says a high of 71.
05/15/2007 at 1:37 pm #1873780I’m moving the paddling discussion over to this subject…

If you can provide those coordinates, that would be great.
This is off the DNR boat launch site:
44° 19′ 40″ N, 89° 11′ 25″ W
The upper chain is a fantastic place to paddle and is only a few minutes from the park. You can also access Marl lake and get out at Whispering Pines (and there’s a cache there!). Actually you can access the entire chain of 20 some lakes from the upper chain. We’ll be bringing our kayaks and love to paddle this area- how about planning on a group paddle Saturday afternoon sometime? We’ll be camping in family camping and shouldn’t be too hard to spot- just look for a trailer with four kayaks on it.
OPS, thanks for the coordinates. I never would have known you can reach the other lakes from that launch site. I’m looking forward to this.
Here’s a Google map showing the launch provided by One Paddle Short:
Map Of Launch05/17/2007 at 5:52 pm #1873781For those interested in getting together for canoes or kayaks this weekend at the campout, here’s a suggested plan.
If you want to try your hand at kayaking, (or rent a canoe at the park) we could meet near wherever the canoe rental place is within the park around 10 o’clock Saturday morning. It’s either on Allen Lake or Hartman Lake. I forget which.
Then Saturday afternoon, say 1 p.m., anyone who wants to gather for a flotilla on the Chain O Lakes could meet at the DNR boat launch, (coordinates provided by One Paddle Short): 44° 19′ 40″ N, 89° 11′ 25″ W
This is just a suggested plan. We can iron out details around the Friday evening campfire.
The forecast for Waupaca now says a high of 82 on Saturday.

Sounds like a plan. We’ll be there!
