Don’t worry about it. I don’t know the story behind the boycott, but no one forces anyone to go find a cache. If he becomes a problem, contact the Frog.

That is funny. I agree with Cheesehead, don’t let it bother you.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

      Dean,

Anyone who is feeling harassed by another cacher has the option of sending an email to Groundspeak, and they can intervene.

I believe that life is too short for petty feuds, so the other option is just to ignore it, and do your own thing the way you like doing it.

I would feel like doing the opposite of not hiding caches,in fact I would place more, especially by his/her house, then there closest page would be all my caches 😀

We found one of your caches on Saturday and enjoyed the quick find on a long day. The nice thing about caching is the variety to choose what kind of caching you feel like doing from day to day.

If you quit they win. Let the smillies you get drown their noise out.

I didn’t see any mention of the boycott you mentioned but I didn’t look real careful. Gives me a reason to head to western Wisconsin… To do “Your” caches!

Look at his profile page and the pic he uses non his logs.

The “boycott” images have been removed. Perhaps the boycott can also be removed and people can move on. Too much caching fun to be had out there for either “side” to feel like they have to worry about such things.

See, I would be pretty devastated if you archived. Not only have I spent every summer of my life camping at Perrot but this was my 10th or so cache find log:

        http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=46639b8f-fcc9-458c-a184-a93b66e8f2c0

“I’m new to caching but thought I’d share my story about this cache. 🙂 Thanks so much for the caches in Perrot State Park. I turned 25 this year and my first visit was at 3 months…my family has been back almost every year since and my husband and I kept that tradition up. I was so excited to find so many caches at one of my favorite places. We’re hoping to pick up the rest of the trail ones when we go back later this summer. Anyway we had a great trek to this cache and inside was a chip clip from Cardinal Stritch; a graduate school I’ll be applying to in fall. We’re struggling about what to do if we have an out of state move so I think it’s a little God sent sign to find the clip with the school on it in our favorite place (and one we’d miss a lot if we moved). Also picked up Eagle TB and will try to get it on its way this week. TFTC!!”

And months later I posted a note for when I’d been accepted into a few schools, including Cardinal. You will never know how relaxed and happy finding that darn chip clip made me!

I know it was Trekkin’ and birdin’s hide, but obviously you’ve impacted the game and fellow cachers in your area. And I, down Janesville-way, have very much appreciated your time and efforts.

As a local cacher let me add a bit of insight to this whole conversation. I have found LOTS of deans caches, and at first I was a fan of all the caches that he placed, but about 2 years ago that changed when he decided he liked getting DNF notifications more than he liked smileys. He told that to me and many others in this area that he LOVES getting DNF notifications, this led to him not doing maintenance and then just archiving his caches and placing a new one very close to were the old one was. On more than one occasion, I have gone after one of his caches that was placed by an old one, and went over and get a free container since he didnt retrieve the old one he archived.

Dean if you want people in the area to like getting your caches again, go back to the old way. If you want to get the DNF notifications still make them HARD as hell but make sure they are there.

I stopped looking for your stuff shortly after you told me how much you like getting the DNF’s, until then I had put up with caches missing half the time, the containers that werent water proof and the logs were always wet, the post it notes for logs which are a disaster after a short ammount of time, and walking away from i don’t even know how many caches because they were in questionable locations, private property or just places that made me feel uncomfortable looking in.

How can I recommend a cache to someone if I dont know if its still there or if its been archived and replaced by something else.

I have found great caches by Dean, but once his attitude from wanting people to collect smiles turned to having them rather get frowny faces, I stopped lookign for his stuff also.

The other and probably even worse part about this style of hiding is new people to this sport see his hundreds of caches in bad containers, not maintained, and in questionable locations and adopt the same type of caching.

Dean place tons of caches like you used to but be an inspiration to the area, not someone who people put in gsak scripts to avoid. I liked your old caches, I can not say I enjoy your new ones at all.

If you archive everything I can’t say I will be sad, but I would rather have lots of findable maintained caches in the area, that follow the placement rules from groundspeak.

Thank you for the info. That might explain the higher number of Lonely Caches in that area, too. A bit of a “ripple effect”.

Seeing that The Balk’s posted as the first from the area I guess I will give my take also.

I totally agree with what Nate has said, I used to find everyone of your caches, but after going back to the same spot for the 3rd time in 3 years because the lack of maintenance caused issues or you decided to change up the style to make more dnf’s because you like to see the dnf’s is not how I like to play the game. Everything The Balk’s posted is the exact truth for this area, some people may not believe it or argue, but the folks in this area that have no joined the Boycott club is actually pretty impressive and something that you should realize is telling of a major issue with the way you play your game. That is one reason I have now started traveling out of the LaCrosse region in the last year to search out caches, The Balk’s pretty much quit caching altogether because of your hides and he was one of my main partners and that affects me.

I hide caches in this area, when I travel to events out of the area I hear from folks who will not cache here because of your hides, this is a detriment to my caches that I want found, I don’t go out and try to find a spot around the numerous caches you have out taking up spots for new hiders to find out that people don’t cache here and that my hides won’t get the found logs I want.

Like The Balk’s say, we in the area welcome your hides if they are findable, maintained and legal, but a majority of folks in the coulee region have finally had the last straw. Me, I’m leaning their way, yes I have issues with your hides at times but you also have some very creative hides that are great but over time they deteriorate due to lack of attention and give the area a bad name.

I’m kind of wondering why this thread remained actually.. considering that the thread by Putterizer got warned for almost calling out a member. If anyone wants to learn more look on facebook for the coulee region cacher group and see the threads that I have left standing to try to eliminate some of the spillover and handle it in our area.

VTS, you are welcome back to our group at anytime to discuss things and learn the issues, you have missed alot on the issues and people questioning your actions.
