Hi fellow WGA members,
I am trying to gauge the interest in a “Buddy System” for the West Bend Cache Ba$h this August. I know many new cachers would LOVE to gain your caching knowledge, but I need veteran cachers for it to work.
Pairing newer cachers with the wise folks of the WGA would really help improve overall education to new cachers about caching rules and etiquette. We are now allowing TWO days to find the 50 caches during the Ba$h (Friday, starting at noon, and all day Saturday), so there won’t be such a mad crazed rush for the caches as in the past, and maybe you could volunteer just one day to this Buddy idea.
Ideally, we’d pair up newbie teams with more experienced teams, or perhaps pair out-of-town cachers with more local cachers. I would try to pair up families with kids so the kids could have a nice time together, and maybe try to match caching styles (leisurely, picking up a few caches and enjoying the area, or fast and aggressive, grabbing as many caches as possible, or somewhere in the middle).
What do you think? Is there serious interest? Any comments or suggestions?
If I get enough yes votes, I’ll make it part of the Ba$h experience, and set up a sign-up system on the event cache page.
Thanks,

04/29/2010 at 2:01 pm #1927577I am kinda new, I have been broken in by some Dr. D’s and Goldiediggers caches, but haveing just started this addiction I do not have all the needed tools for some of the more difficult caches… ie boats, climbing gear, ect…. I just saw a hint that there will be caches placed at the WB bash that will only be accessable by boat. So, if I want to try to get all the caches I would need to find someone to team up with who has a boat and is willing to share/steer/ect… It would be nice maybe to get some people together that have the experience on the more difficult terrain caches.
04/29/2010 at 2:16 pm #1927578The 50 caches placed for the event will not require a boat. We do our best to make sure that the majority of teams have the potential to get all 50 caches. We try to make them family-friendly, although some might have long hikes with hilly terrain.
However, sometimes we place *bonus* caches in addition to the 50 for those who are more adventurous. Last year, we placed a couple water caches in spring, but the water level was so low in August that most people could just wade across the river to one or two. I’m not sure what’s in store this year yet. There has been talk of some bonus water caches again.
04/29/2010 at 3:24 pm #1927579We are not new to cacheing but are new to the cache bash. We would be interested in teaming up with some experianced folks that have done the cach bash before. We would want to do a leisurely pace grabbing a few here and there, but being able to experiance the bash and have fun. If anyone is will to join up with us let us know or if thepharmgirl knows of someone let us know.
Thanks,
Scrappy Scout
Meg and Kevin04/29/2010 at 11:15 pm #1927580I don’t know if I qualify as a new cacher, but I would be new to the cache ba$h and think it would be great to be teamed up with someone who has done it before or is atleast familiar with the area.
04/30/2010 at 1:02 am #1927581Dang it! I would love to be someones buddy. Husband I are familiar with the area, but we have the “Midwest Vintage Trailer ” rally that weekend. Seeing as how my trailer made the front page this year I’m obligated to attend. We will enjoy the following weekend trying for the caches from the ba$h.
