Since we’re headed to the Cache Ba$h soon and the chances of bumping into other groups of cachers will be high (although last year I think we only bottlenecked at 2 caches (we also only had the chance to find 16 due to time)) I was wondering what the etiquette is about running into another group. Outside of the event weÒ€ℒve only run into one other very friendly group at a cache but at the event my inlaws, husband, and I were loudly snapped at while we were still 300Ò€ℒ from a tree in the middle of an open area. All three times we tried to stay at least a hundred feet away or so from the group until theyÒ€ℒve replaced it. However, if 6 people are standing around a tree there is only so much we can do to ignore GZ.

If you are a fast runner it should not be a problem, but am slow so I usually resort to tripping someone trying to get to the cache before me.

Being truthful now most cachers enjoy the experience of bumping into aanother cacher on the trail at this event. That’s what events are for for – the social aspect. Some cachers come to this event to find as mant caches as they can and others come just for the comraderie. We plan on finding about 10 caches each day and spending the rest of the time geo-gabbing in the park.

During a big event like WB, walk right up and say “hi”. If they “snap”, tell them to get a life.
    Seriously.

I have yet to run into cachers that aren’t happy to meet other cachers. The only real etiquette is to be friendly.

    EDIT:
So tell them to get a life in a friendly tone. πŸ™‚

I bottle necked at every cache I did down there, specially the new ones they put out. Its unavoidable, about the only negative from it was everyone was disappointed having the container just handed to them rather than making the find.

Beyond that everyone was very approachable.

The first cachers we ever bumped into was Team Blackcat. They tripped us and looked the other way when we asked for a hand getting up. Just kidding, they were super nice to us and didn’t even let on that they had way more experience than we did. I thought is was great fun to meet other people interesting in our hobby especially when so many people look at me like I am speaking another language when I say I am “geocaching”.

Hey, I’m thinking that Team Black-Cat was our “first” also! We ended up climbing on snowbanks with them and GMO to hunt nanos. Those Cats are everywhere!

and don”t forget here the cache put it back over here. other than that i find most catchers like the company on a tough hide. or a long walk to Gz. πŸ˜€

The problem with this handoff style is that when the initial finder passes it off and it progresses down the line, and the initial finder splits the scene to go grab another cache, the last person left holding the cache has to guess on where the cache was and how it was hidden.

moral of the story…. don’t be the last cacher to touch the cache πŸ™‚
real moral of the story… be sure to ask where or how the cache was hidden.
