The River Caches.

My two favorite caches were the Frog Pond and On the Verge of Fellenz Woods. Not because they were the hardest to get to, but because of the hides themselves. If I were to go back to Friday, knowing what I know now, I would skip these two, because I could have done 8 other caches in the time these two took, but I would have missed a couple of great caches.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
08/18/2010 at 1:49 am #1934520All in all this was a good event. Here are a few of my thoughts:
1. We did find several local, non-event caches that where not in the best of shape.
2. Making this less of a competition will mean that next year I will not be doing the outer caches. I will stick to a more concentrated effort and look for more traditional caches in the local area.
3. I am less likely to look for the newly placed caches because if my raffle ticket is for the chance at a bag I already have or a pencil then it really is not worth getting a certain number of caches on the card for tickets.
4. I realize that the water caches had non-payment options, but they were not very practical. If you really wanted to challenge yourself to find them all in the two days you needed to pay.
5. Why are there not more local businesses involved? I spent about $15 total in town because I was not there caching for very long compared to all the outer caches on the card. Why were there not any door prizes from the local businesses? This is hosted by the Chamber after all.
6. Perhaps some of the less maintained local caches need to be archived so that next year’s caches can be closer to the venue and perhaps more at businesses. Isn’t this what the chamber wants to highlight?
7. As for other daytime activities, a poker run stopping at local businesses for “cards” would assist the chamber in their mission too.08/18/2010 at 2:29 am #1934521definite “like” on the poker run idea
08/18/2010 at 2:36 am #1934522I now have done about half of the caches, so I will drop my 2 pennies in:
1. I need to say that it was clear the tickets “earned” for finding caches were for the door prizes not the cash drawing. Any complaints are the result of not paying attention.
2. I really enjoyed the variety of caches placed. My favorites so far are “frog Pond”, “Fellenz woods”, “you’re so vain” and “Black ops” (I know that this cache was not in the pamphlet, but the people who missed it missed a great experience.) I didn’t do the water hides or the WherIgo, but it is great that they were available.
3. The vendors were O.K, but more would even be better.
4. I wish Toucan’s (and other businesses) would provide a coupon. Everytime I drove by there, there were plenty of vehicle travel bug decals in that parking lot. When I went there, there were at least 6 caching teams eating dinner.
5. This was a fun event full of socializing and geocaching. Every team had the opportunity to enjoy the event the way they sought fit. I was more social, because I knew that living in the area I can make the short trip to search at my leisure.
A big thanks to all that made this happen.

Black Ops by far was my favorite, because I got to use the special equipment I always carry with me.
I also really enjoyed the fear of 13 one I think it was with the huge duck, little duck and itty bitty ammo can.
And I cant believe I am going to admit this, but The WALL!
08/18/2010 at 4:18 am #1934524I’ll have to look for some night caches locally. I still have so many different types of caches to find!
I really liked “You’re so vain.” It was one of my MIL’s first caches and she thought it was a really cool concept.
The one with the decoys would have been a good challenge w/o the decoys and without fellow cachers around. My BIL has a good eye!
