How did you download the caches? And what type of GPS units were you using?
I’ve got a 60csx and the caches were downloaded the night before at the meet and greet event. Mine didn’t have the 09 codes either.
There was a rogue “guy in the hall” downloading stuff on Friday night. We can’t be responsible for anything that guy was doing… apparently (from what we can deduce) he was using smart names and also giving people the cache information from 2008? While this person was trying to be helpful, it really just caused more confusion and we had to “fix” (redownload) a number of people on Saturday morning.

Mine was downloaded Saturday marning!
08/19/2009 at 6:46 pm #1897944The download to my hand held garmin worked great. All of the way points were the numbers.
I managed to get my Nuvi loaded the way I wanted later from the GPX file provided at the download (and shared my approach with those “behind the table” for next time).
It was easy for me to look at the provided paper map, see a number and search on that number in my Nuvi (using Spell feature) and in my Handheld sorted by name. Worked real slick for me.

08/19/2009 at 8:50 pm #1897946My “What if…” was to get cachers thinking in the other vein.
If you went out and cached from 7:00 AM until noon, and decided you had enough mud and water, would you then go to Regner Park and sit in your car for 4 1/2- 6 hours, waiting for the cash drawing? Or would you visit the West Bend area while waiting for the raffle? Would you sit in the rain for 60 minutes while the raffle prizes were announced? Or head home early, because it isn’t worth sitting in the rain for 60 minutes while the raffle prizes are being announced?
The comments might possibly be, “Less raffle prizes! Sat in the rain for an hour and didn’t win anything”. “We could have had more coupons to use in the area businesses while we waited for the raffle”.
I cache in the rain, too. But that’s beside the point.
The WBCB crew has an excellent, proactive agenda, rain or shine. They have a good balance of cache and social related things for each cachers taste.
The comments coming in are based on a “good weather” caching Event.
If we get a “wet” Cash Ba$h, it will be interesting to see if the same comments crop up.

I had my 60cx loaded at the preba$h as well and had no 09#s. I heard about the “rogue” afterwards and it wasn’t him.
08/19/2009 at 9:50 pm #1897948I downloaded mine from gc.com at the hotel, and had not problems at all. I chose to do it the way that I was familiar with, just to avoid potential problems, and I am not a standing in line type guy. I am glad you make both options available. Thanks.

Oh okay I see now 😳 Well, we just won’t have rain then!! LOL! 😉 It has been a huge worry for me and I can’t tell you how relieved I was when the 10 day outlook came out and no rain was predicted – whew!
08/19/2009 at 11:47 pm #1897950We have a Magellan Triton 2000 and downloaded from GC.com cache page. We did not have the numbers but it was not a problem for us to crosscheck on the go.

It was GR8EYES that loaded mine.
08/20/2009 at 5:47 pm #1897952I don’t know if this is the right place to ask, but I didn’t want to start another Cache Ba$h thread.
It seemed to me like there was an “offical” picture taker. Taking pictures of the winners, and the cachers coming in. Are those picture posted somewhere…or are they going to be posted somewhere? I see there is an empty photo album for the bash. Thanks

The Chamber was taking pictures. I will post them when they give them to me… our wrap-up meeting is next week… so hopefully then.

I took a few pictures….mostly of my team mate as he won the $100 prize….Jerk…I mean, woot!
Oh and BTW…we as it turns out were not immune to the Poison Ivy. Tim got a pretty good case of it; I only had a few red dots on one leg (maybe 5) which is odd because I lead most of the day. (I think he wanted me to get all the spider webs in my face and get attacked by all the critters lurking in the woods- I hear tell there is a Woolly Mammoth and a Goatman running amok).
Ya, and that whole trekking through the tall grass and thicket for #33…I’m pretty sure it was my trail the rest of you followed. 😳 Without the cache page to tell me expressly not to do this I was on my own to find a way over…Next year long pants it is.
I guess the suggestion that comes out of this post is that if there is important information about a cache make sure it gets in the book and not just listed on the cache page because few (if any) will have that cache pages. We will be working off the coords and other printed materials we get at check in.

I got a mild case of poison ivy at 914. The professor was smart, he said “I’m not going in that poison ivy”. As far as I know I’m the only one of our group that got it. I had low socks on and that probably wasn’t a good idea. Somewhere during the day I also got a spider bite that itches a lot. Today I got stung by a wasp. I also found 5 caches this morning making all of this misery worth it.
08/21/2009 at 2:34 am #1897956I too got poison ivy during the cache ba$h, I think it was from going off-trail on the IAT for an earthcache (not mine). I shouldn’t have worn short (my bad). I geocached today in the pouring rain 8/20/09 and was soaked to the bone for hours. And like Mister Greenthumb I got stung by a wasp/bee today (never did get to see what it was)…..well these are some of my end-of-the-summer geocaching adventures and once the school year starts, I’d be wishing I could do them all over again. tami
PS keep the suggestions coming.
