Saw something on the news this morning about this day in history, and I knew the answer, thanks to geocaching, although that wasn’t mentioned in the clip. Selective availability of GPS satellites was turned off by the US government in 2000, and the civilian use era began… including the start of geocaching.

No matter when you started geocaching or how you geocache now, there are a lot more caches out there to find these days, which makes it easier to reach milestones in numbers of finds, if you choose to recognize those. Curious to see how long it took you to reach certain caching finds, so share your stats here if you want. Month and year is specific enough, and just the milestones of #1, #100, and #1000. (#1 will indicate how early you started geocaching.)

    FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY

Our #1 cache was in October of 2007, our #100 cache was in May of 2008, and our #1000 cache was in August of 2010.

    Fun question…

For us, #1 was June 2006, #100 was April 2007 and #1000 was November 2007. We saw the game start to speed up that second summer of our “career,” and within a year of that, things were really speeding up as far as things being placed.

Things I said “back in the day”

I’d never drive more than 30 minutes to go geocaching.
    If I get 100 a year I’d be happy.

    #1 6/4/2005
    #100 11/14/2005
    #1000 10/16/2009

After that things just got crazy. It slowed a bit when I joined the BOD but still between 2009 and now was about 1000 a year.

But my caching definitely slowed down after our move, especially this year.

We were slow learners. Now we’re going slow again. On a bit of a caching hiatus this year with less than 300 finds so far.

After our first five months we began a daily caching streak for a while so things picked up quite a bit after that.

I found a few caches as part of a geocaching class a year before I went out on my own when I got a Garmin.

    Then #1 was 8/9/2008.

    #100 5/12/2009

    #1000 10/08/2011

It is taking me considerably longer to get my next 1000.

#1 on 4-17-2015 (Long Island Iced Tea)
    #100 on 7-11-2015 (Historic Viewing)

179 at the end of 2015

189 at one year of caching (found on 3-27-16, then didn’t do any caching until after my 1 year geo-anniversary)

Sitting at 199 currently-should’ve been 200, but had a DNF at my attempted 200th on Sunday 5-1-16, a 4.5 Difficulty: “Ain’t nobody got time for that” by Heavin.
