Sorry if this has already been posted.
I have a series of go bags that I use. The purpose of these bags is to be ready in a moments notice with basic materials that I will need for a quick trip out. I am currently setting up a caching “go” bag where I have some necessary materials to make life easier. Currently ( I am new at this) I have the GPS, some gloves, extra bags, pens, pencils, duct tape, digital cam, and some duct tape. What have you found that is useful or helpful and can fit inside a backpack? Thanks! 🙂

On the Left Side of the Road...05/27/2009 at 9:35 pm #1908505I like to take my walking stick. I have a bad ankle and it has come in handy more than once after ankle twists. It is also used to poke around in places that I don’t want to stick my hand into first.
Extra batteries is always nice too.
05/27/2009 at 10:26 pm #1908506I carry in the car a back pack. In it are batterys, compess, map, pens, 2 micro, 2 small cache repair kits, some sandwich bags, jewelry bags, small flashlight. That stays in the car. I carry a fanny pack with water, batterys, flashlight, and a large plastic bag to put the unit in when its raining.

headlamp (flashilight thingy you wear on your head), mosquito stop itch stick,

sunscreen,
bug repellant,
pepper spray if you are around bears or muggers,
pad of paper
granola bars,
bottled water,
first aid kit,

05/27/2009 at 11:28 pm #1908508Some great items listed here. Thanks! Especially the poison ivy ID card! The extra socks would’ve come in handy today too. I really need to get some sort of shoe that is a bit more water resistant. I appreciate the time you spent in posting these.

hand sanitizer,
A couple years ago we discovered that hand sanitizer will give instant relief from stinging nettle.

Munchies, water.
The BIG go bag.
The little go bag.
And, the bag with the ‘other’ stuff in.
💡05/28/2009 at 8:38 pm #1908512Extra set of car keys!
I have a spare set on a carabiner that is attached inside my bag. I’ve had to use them more than once. 😳

Why not keep them in the glove box so you don’t lose them on the trail? 😆
05/28/2009 at 9:50 pm #1908514To go caching. iPhone and Keens. That’s it. You guys are all way over-prepared!
If I don’t come back scrapped up, soaked to the waist, tick-laden, sun-burnt like a farmer, dehydrated, hungry and a little disoriented, what’s the point?
Ask Dave, he’ll tell you how “prepared” I am when we go out.
