01/09/2003 at 4:08 pm #1745162Arn’s #1 with gold logo The only problem I have with these ribbon designs is that they take up a lot of vertical space. If you shrink the ribbon, you lose the detail and can’t read it as easily. I think a more horizontal design would fit on the cache pages better. Cocking them a bit makes them more square, taking up less verticle space. Note that its still the old background till we get new ones from Jeremy. The small one is at 66% of original instead of 50%, so its a bit larger. #3 is the ribbon as a gif with transparent background so it will blend into the cache owners cache page. #1

Question: Because the date appears in the graphic, is someone going to create a unique file for each month and year? Wouldn’t it be better if all the winners linked to just one graphic file and we let the cache owner specify on his/her page the month and the year?01/09/2003 at 11:31 pm #1745165Two thoughts: 1) By using a seperate graphic for each winner, the server logs can give us an idea as to what pages are using the graphic to track if any unauthorized usage is occuring. 2) Likewise, we should put small text say at the bottom of each graphic stating the winning cache name. That will make it much less likely for anyone to incorrectly place a graphic on a cache page. Not that anyone would ever do such a thing, so it may be un-necessary. If that’s the concensus, then I agree a single graphic sans date would make the most sense. 01/10/2003 at 3:50 am #1745166My vote would be for number three. I also think that the month and year look nicer as part of the graphic. Due to turning the graphic, you may want to flip the month and year over. 01/10/2003 at 5:25 am #1745167I also like #3… the transparent .GIF will look sharp on any page with a light colored background. If someone absolutely needs to put the image on a page with a blue or black background, we can give them special code that would put it in a white box. I think the month and year should be put on the images. (I also agree that the month and year should be flipped on the current set of images.) It won’t be that difficult to make up a bunch of different images for last year and this year. If we put the name of the winning cache at the bottom, that means that at the end of each month a new graphic will need to be generated. If the CacheCows want to do this, OK, but I think it isn’t necessary. What about the WGA logo? Should it be rotated because the ribbon is now turned, or would that look stupid? Is it getting too small to read (could lose the GPS and ammo box)? I’ve sent the CacheCows some new logos with different background colors so we’ll see what they come up with… 01/10/2003 at 4:33 pm #1745168Arn mentioned to me yesterday when she did the rotation that the month/year text needed to be flipped, but didn’t have the time right then. So its on her list I personally like the WGA logo still being straight up and down even with the ribbon rotated. Makes it easier to read. She is working now with the material Jeremy sent us (thanks Jeremy!). 01/10/2003 at 5:41 pm #1745169Okay, here’s the latest:
(Arn tried the WGA logo font, but it was a bit too hard to read when reduced. Also, moving the year to its own line helped readability)

I vote for #3 of Cache Cow’s latest. 01/17/2003 at 4:25 am #174517201/23/2003 at 4:32 pm #1745173I couldn’t help but notice that out of all the COTM winners, none have posted the award graphic on the cache page. The only one I have seen posted is Team Rusch’s cache of the year for Three Card Poker. What gives? 01/23/2003 at 5:23 pm #1745174quote:

Should that have appeared already? 01/23/2003 at 5:23 pm #1745175Perhaps an admin (or someone) could notify a cache of the month winner. Include a link to the graphic along with instructions on how to include the graphic on the page. 01/23/2003 at 5:42 pm #1745176My understanding is that CacheCows were going to prepare the graphics and then notify COTM winners. I assume they just haven’t been able to get to it to finish it up yet.
